International Evening

Dear Parents,

International Evening 2012

Huge congratulations to all of the children, parents and staff who contributed to Cathedral Primary School’s International Evening on Friday 25th May. This sell-out evening was an opportunity to celebrate our wonderfully diverse school community through song, dance, music and poetry. The children’s performances were astonishing and included Hungarian dance, African songs, a karate performance, a range of poetry, American Street Dance and a variety of music played on the accordion, piano, recorder and flute as well as an excellent performance from the Cathedral School Choir. During the first half the audience were led in a chorus of God Save the Queen by a child in Year 2.  The incredible and very professional Cathedral School Mum’s Choir treated us to songs from Nigeria and Mexico and parent, Vanessa Fenton, who has spent 13 years at the Royal Ballet Company, performed an amazing dance from Russia. The Cathedral School Staff Choir started the evening off with their interpretation of By the Rivers of Babylon and Mr Scott also sang and was the compere for the evening. The performances finished with a rousing rendition of Maybe It’s Because I’m a Londoner, sang by the audience and performers alike.

International Evening was also an opportunity to get together as a school community and taste a variety of foods from around the world, many thanks to all of the parents and staff who provided the food for the interval.

We have recently been awarded the British Arts Council’s Arts Mark Gold Award for the fourth time. We are incredibly proud of the achievement and believe that International Evening is an important way to showcase the quality of our arts provision. It is also a chance to demonstrate our commitment to developing International links and celebrating our own diverse community; values which played a part in our International School Award which we received in the autumn.

Finally I would once again like to thank all the performers, parents and staff who contributed to a superb evening and especially Mr Rojas who co-ordinated the event.

Best wishes,

Miss Oguz

  • I really enjoyed it, the food was fantastic, so were the performers and I can’t wait to do it again next year.
