Eucharist at Southwark Cathedral

This morning children from Years 4, 5 and 6 (who are communicant in their own church) took part in our school Eucharist service in the John Harvard Chapel. Father Michael led the service and explained each element of the worship as the service progressed.

If you took part in our worship this morning, please share your thoughts and reflections as a comment.

  • After the service, I felt more calm. I enjoyed being able to worship quietly in the small silence. It felt as if I was being washed anew. Father Michael’s words made me feel more peaceful and it was good to have some time to reflect.

  • I have been doing Eucharist for three years and I love it. It is a really good time to relax and wash all my worries away in a pleasing manner. I joined the Eucharist group in year 3 when it was just small but ever since I joined it has grown bigger and bigger every year. I guess every body else enjoys it as much as I do. The times when I am waiting I just close my eyes and speak to God.
Having time set aside to be with God is really good and as I have got older I have begun to appreciate that time more and more because as you get older you become more worried and anxious about things and sometimes you feel like there is nobody to tell but really you will always have God.
This is why I appreciate these sessions at the cathedral because it is a time to confess and tell God what is bothering or worring you.
Thank you to father Micheal for leading these sessions and for the teachers that provide this opportunity for us it is much appreciated.Thank you.

  • I have really enjoyed going to the Eucharist services at school. I have found them very refreshing as it has cleansed my soul. It has also given me a chance to just reflect on various things, such as: school work, drama and music. These Eucharist services have made me really think about other people’s situation and has made me feel closer to God because there is only a small group of children in the room where you can pray and reflect on your life. I have really liked putting all of my worries to God in such a peaceful environment by saying a prayer in your head or aloud.
In the Eucharist service Father Michael also gives you an opportunity to pray aloud or in your head. This has helped me by not keeping anything in and that God is always there. I will always remember this throughout my Christian journey. The offering isn’t like the ones at church because it is more personal and that is why I’m so grateful. It is a calmer environment and you are more at peace with god. That is what I love about these Eucharist services.

  • After the service I felt so humble and I was still thinking about God and thanking him for Year 3’s amazing Candlemas service.
It was incredible, I was so proud of all of them and all the confidence they had.

  • I felt so relaxed at the Eucharist service, I felt one with God. I know all the people there are with me. Since I’ve started these Eucharist services I felt closer to God when I attended this services it’s almost like he’s right beside me and holding my hand assuring us all that everything is ok and he is protecting us. I pray every night with my mum before I go to bed, but at the Eucharist we were given the opportunity to pray aloud in our head which i felt was a wonderful experience, being in God’s house and talking to him, and knowing that he is there to listen.
