The end of year show was an absolute triumph. Mr Scott, Janet and Brenda worked incredibly hard with Class 6 and they all produced a show which will be remembered for a long time, we are sure. We would like to thank all the staff for their various roles during the busy week, and particularly our premises manager Steve who has been busy for weeks because of this production.
As well as the parents of Year 6 for their support, we thank the Year 4 and Year 5 parents who supported the show during their two respective nights dropping off and collecting in the evenings. The children were amazing and there is no other primary school who could put together a show of this quality in just a half term. If you missed the show, watch this one-minute trailer and buy a DVD!
Year 6 achieved superb results in their final exams – with 97% attaining ‘expected’ in all the core subjects (compared to a national level of 59%.) The percentage of ‘greater depth’ was also exceptional – with 67% of our children achieving this high level in reading, compared to the 27% national average. Please note that these national averages are taken from the last available year (2019).
This has been an extraordinary week at Cathedral School, with the discovery of only the fourth dragon egg found in the last hundred years in the playground. The video below best explains the goings-on.
As well as this marvellous find, on Thursday, Miss Campbell arranged for Jan Burchett and Sara Vogler to visit the school. Jan and Sara are a writing partnership with over two hundred books to their name. They’ve written about ‘gargoylz’, dinosaurs, ghosts, football, ghosts playing football, Tudor spies, time-travelling pirates and pets from space!
They were hugely complimentary about the school and the excellent engagement of all our
Book Day itself was a hugely fun day, with older classes hearing younger classes read, mystery teacher readers and, of course, costumes. It was very lovely to see many dragons in amongst the usual favourites. We thank Miss Campbell for organising such a successful and memorable week.
Well done Class 3 for leading Candlemas in the Cathedral so professionally on Wednesday. The prayers and reflections were very thoughtful and your confidence shone through. A fantastic first Cathedral service!
The Christmas Service was held at the Cathedral last week and was a lovely occasion. Year 5 led superbly and their production, ‘Christmas Praise’, was a triumph. Years 2-6 supported them so well with their singing and the younger years performed very confidently. Well done to everybody involved.
The school held its Spanish Day today. Miss Bowen organised lots of exciting activities, a Spanish lunch and Flamenco Dancing.
Danielle, the visiting Flamenco teacher said:
I have been teaching Flamenco in schools for 25 years, and my day at The Cathedral School has been one of the most enjoyable of my career. The staff were supportive of me and all the pupils, and the children were exceptionally focussed and willing to go outside their comfort zone, being taught in Spanish how to dance Flamenco. I was able to teach in 30 mins what would take me an hour to teach in other schools. Bravo and Ole!
What a great day! Thank you to Miss Bowen for making it very memorable and to parents for assisting children finding their costumes.
We were so pleased that Y6’s production of The Little Mermaid was able to go ahead in front of Y6 parents this week.
This year, we didn’t sell tickets to the whole school – the show was able to go ahead thanks to a initial donation from the Governing body. We are very grateful for their support.
Please could you consider donating so we are able to continue with these productions in future years. Usually, tickets are £6 for adults and £4 for children. You will find a “Little Mermaid Donation” payment item in your ParentPay account. Thanks for your support!
We are excited to release all the Christmas videos each class prepared this half term. Year 5 performed our blockbusting Christmas musical ‘Mary, Mary‘, Reception performed ‘Our First Nativity‘ and each of the other classes performed a Christmas song or carol. We hope you enjoy watching them! Merry Christmas!
