The School is open as usual.
A little bit of snow hit SE1 on Friday. KS2 made the most of it at morning break.
This week Cathedral School was in the news again for being ranked 19th in the country in the 2012 performance tables.
Out of around 17,000 schools in England, this is a fantastic achievement. Congratulations to everyone in the school community who contributed to this success.
On Sunday we were pleased to be included in the Sunday Times Top 200 Primary Schools in the country.
It is a testament to the dedication of all at Cathedral School; children, teachers, parents and governors.
Year 6 have returned from a very memorable School Journey in Wiltshire safe and sound.
It was the first time we have visited Liddington so new activities were available to us. We chose canoeing and mountain biking as well as our usual options.
It was an educational trip too, as we developed our map reading skills in orienteering and increased our team work and resilience.
There is a School Journey Blog set up which has videos and photos from the 5 days, as well as hosting a Twitter Feed of the trip.
The blog can be found at www.CathedralPrimarySchool.com/schooljourney
At the moment we are thinking about how pupils learn best. Please leave a comment and tell us how you learn best.
It’s been a fantastic first week back at Cathedral School.
[frame align=”left”][/frame]The feedback from parents on the exciting new playground has been extremely positive, and the children have certainly found it adds much fun and colour to their learning.
In addition, many parents have also commented very favourably on the new school newsletter which aims to highlight the important events of school life clearly and in a digestible format.
The children are also to be congratulated for the superb start to the year. Both at playtimes and lunchtimes in the playground, behaviour has been impeccable throughout the week. Whether it is because of increased equipment and games opportunities which were requested by school council last year, or because of our emphasis on respect as a UNICEF Rights Respecting School, we have been especially proud of the children’s attitude and manner towards each other.
In a busy week, we also focused on World Faith, which culminated in some fantastic displays being made for the hall by all the classes. If you click here you can see a video of Year 6 taking responsibility for their own display – from deciding what to research on the iPads, to creating the informative posters on laptops, to printing the work out (using the brand new Pupil Laser Printer) to then finally putting the posters together with old fashioned scissors and glue.
And if you would like to know who particularly excelled this week in the World Faith topic, you can visit the Stars of the Week page! Ferdinand and Esther rounded the week off well this morning, as they did a great job of leading the Stars of the Week assembly, announcing the week’s Stars.
The Olympic Torch went past school today. Watch this quick video of it being carried along Marshalsea Rd.
Reception Class and Class Six were invited along with Miss Scade and Mr Scott to demonstrate a music lesson using the Voices Foundation methodology at the Royal Festival hall!
As a Voices Foundation Beacon school and a Sing Up Gold award holder, we were in our element.
In fact, we were asked to perform twice, in different parts of the Southbank Centre – but performing on the Royal Festival Hall stage was by far and away the highlight.
Whilst we were performing Suzi Digby, Baroness Eatwell (Founder of the the Voices Foundation) was talking in the huge Queen Elizabeth Hall about our school and its commitment to singing.
An audio recording of our performance was captured and put on the internet by some of the Festival’s co-contributors the very same minute. It is on our Twitter Feed.
There is a video of Reception class singing there, in glorious HD, on Reception’s Blog.
This is a video Miss Godsell made of Mr Blunkett’s recent visit:
