Spanish Day

Spanish Day

The school held its Spanish Day today. Miss Bowen organised lots of exciting activities, a Spanish lunch and Flamenco Dancing.

Danielle, the visiting Flamenco teacher said:

I have been teaching Flamenco in schools for 25 years, and my day at The Cathedral School has been one of the most enjoyable of my career. The staff were supportive of me and all the pupils, and the children were exceptionally focussed and willing to go outside their comfort zone, being taught in Spanish how to dance Flamenco. I was able to teach in 30 mins what would take me an hour to teach in other schools. Bravo and Ole!

What a great day! Thank you to Miss Bowen for making it very memorable and to parents for assisting children finding their costumes.

The Little Mermaid

The Little Mermaid

We were so pleased that Y6’s production of The Little Mermaid was able to go ahead in front of Y6 parents this week.

This year, we didn’t sell tickets to the whole school – the show was able to go ahead thanks to a initial donation from the Governing body. We are very grateful for their support.

Please could you consider donating so we are able to continue with these productions in future years. Usually, tickets are £6 for adults and £4 for children. You will find a “Little Mermaid Donation” payment item in your ParentPay account. Thanks for your support!

Election Day

Election Day

On Thursday, the school (Y2 upwards) took part in a mock election. Four members of Year 6 researched the policies of the four political parties representing Bermondsey and Old Southwark and presented them to the school.

There were five rounds of questioning: Education, a safer UK, a more prosperous UK, healthcare and the issue of the UK’s impending departure from the EU.

The representatives were fantastic, on top of their briefs and explained complex issues really well for the younger
children. Year 6 were given 5 posters for each for political party and placed them round the school.

In the afternoon, the school went to the polls with a mock ballot slip for this constituency. Year 6 counted the votes and aimed to beat Sunderland’s 48 minute record in 2015.

The Liberal Democrats won 46% of the whole school vote. Class by class, they also were the largest party in all but one of the classes. In that class, the Brexit Party received the most votes.

The whole school results are included in the gallery. It was a very worthwhile exercise as we further explored the British value of democracy.

Christmas Service

Christmas Service

The Christmas Service at the Cathedral was a wonderful occasion today, with all children in fine voice.
Year 5 led the service superbly and their performance of ‘Christmas Presence’ was extremely professional and full of joy. Sheila Wilson, the composer of the show, came to see it and thought it was amazing too. (Sheila also visited the school afterwards and thought it was fantastic).

Nursery, Reception and Year 1 sang extremely well, while the rest of the school supported Year 5 with ‘Christmas Presence’ with beautiful and harmonious singing. It was a highlight of the year and we thank all the children and staff for all their talent and dedication to it.
