What will you write in your journal?

At the end of the Autumn Term each child from Reception to Year 6 was given their own journal to use over the Christmas break.journal

Many thanks to a group of children from Year 6 who helped to put the journals together.

Some children asked, ‘What can I put in my journal?’

Here are some ideas:

  • Book reviews
  • Diary entries
  • Handwriting and spelling
  • Film reviews
  • An exciting story
  • Mathematical word problems
  • A biography (of a family member, inventor, person from history etc.)
  • Recipes
  • Invent a game to play
  • Instructions
  • A poem

We are looking forward to welcoming pupils back to school on January 8th and giving them the opportunity to share their journal with their class. There will be a prize for the best 2 journals in each class.

What have you written in your journal?

A Wonderful Christmas Fete

Many thanks to the Parent Forum for organising such a wonderful Christmas Fete, even Father Christmas made an appearance to give out sweets! As usual there was a fantastic range of stalls including ‘guess the weight of the cake’, a lucky dip, face painting, balloon modelling, a raffle and the ever popular cake stall. The free activity area really added to the Christmas atmosphere with children making decorations for the tree and icing Christmas biscuits. Once again, thank you to the Parent Forum for organising the event and for everybody who attended our Christmas Fete.

We also had fun dancing to Christmas music, pulling crackers and sharing funny jokes with friends.

Last Week of Clubs

This week (week beginning 09/12/13) is the last week of clubs for 2013.

They will start again the week beginning 13/01/13. As usual, a letter will go out in the first week back so new clubs can be chosen for Spring Term.

A new club for 2013 was Robotics, where pupils built and programmed Lego Mindstorm robots to perform ever more difficult tasks using different sensors.

Take a look:

Project Club spent time researching free and inexpensive places to visit in London. Please have a look at their presentation.

DT Week

DT WEEK

From the 18th to the 22nd of November Cathedral School became a Design and Technology Manufacturing School! During DT Week we focused on designing and making high-quality products that were evaluated at the end of the week.

Each class chose a different project. From Monster Scarers to Puppets and Cushions, we had it all!

This is what we created:

Nursery: Monster Scarers

Reception: Photo Frames

Year 1 : Pop Up Puppets

Year 2: Hand Puppets

Year 3: Bowls

Year 4 : Money Bags

Year 5: Bridges

Year 6: Cushions

After working hard all week, on Wednesday 27th November, the inaugural Cathedral School Design Expo was held in the hall. All of the wonderful products were laid out for the rest of the school to see. Key Stage 2 children helped the Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 students give constructive feedback, in the form of stars, wishes and questions.

“I like how you used different materials to make different clothes”

“I like the bells, they will scare the monsters away”

“I like how you stuck the design on carefully. Well done!”

“Next time, it would be great to see some neat stitching.”

Please leave a comment about which product you like, or ask any questions you have!

ESafety Morning

On Monday the school will be hosting an eSafety morning for parents delivered by London CLC.

It begins at 9.00am and the hall will be open at 8.50am

It will highlight the dangers your child could face online, give advice on topics such as cyber-bullying and will help you find more information about this fast-changing issue.

There will also be results of a survey answered by pupils, which may reveal a few surprises.

Biscuits will be provided! Thanks for your support.

Road Safety Week

Last week we thought about how to keep safe on the roads as we walked to Southwark Cathedral. Years 5 and 6 walked with Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, reminding them how to keep safe as they crossed the roads. We are very grateful to the traffic wardens who accompanied us. Here are some facts from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents:

■ Most road accidents happen in daylight.
■ The most dangerous hours on the roads are 3.00pm to 6.00pm and 7.00am to 9.00am.

As part of Road Safety Awareness Week each child has been given a reflector and pupils in the Foundation Stage have been given an activity pack courtesy of The Children’s Traffic Club

Please visit the Think!Education website for more information on road safety, as well as games and a quiz.

How do these photos show that we are being safe on the roads?
