Spring 1 – Week 1

Stars of the Week: Leon and Dhani

In our science lesson this week, Leon and Dhani used impressive scientific vocabulary to describe the properties of everyday materials and why they are important. They correctly explained that windows are made of glass because glass is transparent.

This week in Class 1

I hope you all had a wonderful and restful Christmas break! It’s been lovely to see everyone return to school refreshed and ready to learn.

Class 1 have settled right back in and hit the ground running—full steam ahead! This week, we dived into our new science topic: Everyday Materials.

To kick off the topic, we sat together in a circle and explored a variety of materials. The class did a fantastic job identifying the different properties of each material. We heard some brilliant use of scientific vocabulary, including words like transparent, flexible, and rigid. It was impressive to see how confidently Class 1 used these terms!

Next, we ventured on a materials hunt around the school. The children spotted objects made of wood, metal, plastic, and more, while discussing their properties and uses.

Well done, Class 1, for a fantastic first week back! Have a look at the bottom of the post for information about Spellings.
