Hymn for Collective Worship

Please see the hymn below ‘Shine Jesus Shine’. We will be singing this on Tuesday.

Lyrics

Lord, the light of your love is shining
In the midst of the darkness, shining
Jesus, Light of the world, shine upon us
Set us free by the truth you now bring us
Shine on me, shine on me
Shine, Jesus, shine
Fill this land with the Father’s glory
Blaze, Spirit, blaze
Set our hearts on fire
Flow, river, flow
Flood the nations with grace and mercy
Send forth your word
Lord, and let there be light
Lord, I come to your awesome presence
From the shadows into your radiance
By the blood I may enter your brightness
Search me, try me, consume all my darkness
Shine on me, shine on me
Shine, Jesus, shine
Fill this land with the Father’s glory
Blaze, Spirit, blaze
Set our hearts on fire
Flow, river, flow
Flood the nations with grace and mercy
Send forth your word
Lord, and let there be light
As we gaze on your kingly brightness
So our faces display your likeness
Ever changing from glory to glory
Mirrored here may our lives tell your story
Shine on me, shine on me
Shine, Jesus, shine
Fill this land with the Father’s glory
Blaze, Spirit, blaze
Set our hearts on fire
Flow, river, flow
Flood the nations with grace and mercy
Send forth your word
Lord, and let there be light

Computing & Science Day

Stars of the week: Nathan I and Abigail

It’s been a busy few days in Class 1. Last week we had a visit from the CLC to support our learning in Computing. Children used beebots to consolidate their learning on position and direction and then plotted different areas their beebot could go on a treasure map!

We also enjoyed Science Day! Class 1 had a great time in the planetarium which came to our school and learnt a lot of facts about space! We then conducted a science experiment in the afternoon making paper helicopters and testing the rate in which it spins, depending on the weight at the bottom!

Please see our pictures below!

Summer 2 Week 2

Menata and Ari

This week, Class 1 wrote some excellent letters of advice for Reception as they get ready to enter Class 1. Children thought of some really interesting advice, such as getting changed nice and quickly for PE and making sure you show neat handwriting. Take a look at some of our writing below!

Collective Worship

Class 1’s Collective Worship will be taking place on Tuesday 28th June. Children have all been given their lines, which is stuck into their blue reading record. Please support your child with learning them.

I have also attached the song that we will be singing, it’s linked to our topic last term on The Victorians.

Lyrics

There were six little soldiers in the shop,
In the shop in the penny arcade.
There were six little soldiers in the shop,
Just waiting to join their brigade.
Left right, left right,
Left right, left right, left right!
There were six little soldiers in the shop,
In the shop in the penny arcade.

There were five china dolls in the shop,
In the shop in the penny arcade.
There five china dolls in the shop,
Just waiting to be displayed.
Sleep tight, sleep tight,
Sleep tight, sleep tight, all night!
There were five china dolls in the shop,
In the shop in the penny arcade.

There were four glist’ning marbles in the shop,
In the shop in the penny arcade.
There were four glist’ning marbles in the shop,
All shiny and waiting to be played.
Click clack, click clack,
Click clack, click clack, click clack!
There were four glist’ning marbles in the shop,
In the shop in the penny arcade.

There were three string puppets in the shop,
In the shop in the penny arcade,
There were three string puppets in the shop,
Lots of strings and a colourful braid.
Bounce bounce, bounce bounce,
Bounce bounce, bounce bounce, bounce bounce!
There were three string puppets in the shop,
In the shop in the penny arcade.

There were two tin whistles in the shop,
In the shop in the penny arcade.
There were two tin whistles in the shop,
Just desp’rately waiting to be played.
Toot toot, toot toot,
Toot toot, toot toot, toot toot!
There were two tin whistles in the shop,
In the shop in the penny arcade.

There was one rocking horse in the shop,
In the shop in the penny arcade.
There was one rocking horse in the shop,
Standing proud, swishing tail, on parade.
Rock rock, rock rock,
Rock rock, rock rock, rock, rock!
There was one rocking horse in the shop,
In the shop in the penny arcade.

There were six little soldiers,
There were five china dolls,
There were four glist’ning marbles,
There were three string puppets,
There were two tin whistles,
There was one rocking horse
In the shop in the penny arcade.

Summer 2 Week 1 – Phonics Superstars!

Stars of the week: All of Class 1

Wow! What a great week Class 1 have had with taking the Phonics Screening Check. You all did so great and remembered your segmenting and blending when reading your words. You have all made myself, Margaret and Ellie very, very proud. Mrs Scott was also very impressed with some phonics that she saw! Well done to everyone.

Before half term, Class 1 also went on a trip to Tideway London where children learnt about taking care of the environment, recycling and cleaning up the River Thames! We had a lovely morning there, some photos from this trip are below.

Notices!

Dear Class 1 Parents,

  • PE will now be on Tuesdays (please continue to bring in PE kits at the beginning of the week). As it’s the summer term, all children should be wearing navy shorts.
  • Spellings have resumed this week, some children have a new spelling book. Please continue to support your child with learning their words, tests will be every Monday.
  • Our trip to the Unicorn Theatre next week Tuesday does not require a packed lunch. The show is only about an hour, so children will be back for lunch at school.

Any questions about anything, please do not hesitate to speak to me.

Mrs. Copeland

Summer 1 Week 6- History Day

Stars of the week: Adeel and Lenni

Class 1 had a great time celebrating History Day! Children came to school dressed in some brilliant costumes, we had Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth, chimney sweepers, maids and many more creative outfits! Children have really enjoyed their history topic on The Victorians this half term and we have had many lessons comparing Victorian life to how we live now.
