Join us in the Jungle Book!

During Book Week we have been reading our new class text The Jungle Book by Rudyard Kipling. We wrote diary entries as Mowgli, thinking about the characters, settings and events in the story.

 

Dear diary

I am pleased with myself because I climbed the biggest, tallest tree in the jungle. Now I am big and very strong. When I am hot me and Baloo jump in the water to get cool. My favourite foods are nuts, honey and fruit.

Dear diary

My name is Mowgli. I live with wolves in the jungle and I have got an enemy, a tiger. His name is Shere Khan. He wants to eat me, but Baloo and Bagheera are protecting me. I like to play with my brothers and sisters. I learn different things from Baloo. Sometimes Bagheera watches me and listens to the lessons. Baloo helps me know if a branch is rotten or not. Baloo gets cross when I don’t pay attention! When Baloo is away I feel worried. The wolves are kind to me so it makes me less worried. The wolves are my family.

It is so hot in the jungle. Today I am learning to climb trees with Baloo. But suddenly Shere Khan came. Me and my friends ran to the cave. Naughty Shere Khan snapped his jaws.

I live with wolves. Normally I play with the wolf cubs. It is lots of fun! We have one enemy and his name is Shere Khan. Luckily our cave is too small for him to get in.

I got kidnapped by the monkeys and they locked me up in the cold lair. It is dark and gloomy and there are lots of snakes hissing. I am so scared that the building will crumble down. The monkeys are chattering loudly.

The monkeys took me to the cold lairs. It was freezing like snow balls and scary snakes were slithering all over the place. I am cold.

Dear diary

I was still stuck in the cold lairs. Suddenly Bagheera’s shadow appeared! The monkeys saw him and jumped on him. Just then Baloo came. He was struggling to get over the walls. When he managed to the monkeys jumped on him too. Then Kaa came, the monkey’s worst enemy. He swang his tail at the monkeys and Baloo crushed the summer house. I hugged Baloo round the neck. While I was asleep on Bagheera’s back we went home.

Dear diary

Today I had the best shock of my life! I was locked up inside the summer house when suddenly Bagheera came crashing out of the shadows! “I am here to help” he said. But I thought where is Baloo? Suddenly monkeys came jumping out from all directions! Then I shouted out to Bagheera telling him to go to the cold water. He did so and the monkeys jumped off because they hate getting wet! Just then Baloo came rolling over the last wall. (He looked so funny!) Baloo gave the monkeys a big hug but they still pulled him down. He went down to the water too. Then who should come but Kaa! All the monkeys went wild! He squeezed them in his powerful tail and me and Baloo and Bagheera went home. I snored so loudly that even nasty Shere Khan could hear me (I think).

Today it was an exciting day. Bagheera, Baloo and Kaa rescued me! When a cloud had blocked the moon Bagheera struck. Suddenly after I wished Baloo was here there was a loud roar behind the rocks and it was Baloo! Then when Bagheera was tired I shouted to him, “Go to the pool”. As soon as Bagheera was in the pool there was a long low hiss. Kaa the rock python was here. The monkeys froze in fear. They were all afraid of him.
