The New… PURPLE MASH!!!!!

Class 4 and many other classes are using a new feature called Purple Mash. Purple Mash is a great learning program you can do on your computer! Lots of us have been busy. We use it a lot in our class and I am sure other classes are good at using it too.

You can access it through the school website using your username and password.

What have you been using it for?

Takeover Day!

Today it is Takeover Day! It is really enjoyable because we get to do Miss Deacon’s job. The jobs that we have done today have included reading buddies, marking literacy and numeracy books, leading starters and plenaries of lessons. We have also done things like taking the register, calling out names at home time, leading the rest of the class out to play and taking lessons. Despite the fact that this is quite fun, it is also quite tiring. Now we know how Miss Deacon and Timi feel when they are teaching.

“I felt like a member of staff” Gabriel.

“I felt like it was my first day of teaching” Araya.

“I felt in charge” Renee.

“It was almost as if we had grown up over night” Eleanor.

“Even though I was marking the books, I felt like the boss” Musa.

“I knew I had done lots of hard work because I felt tired” Leon.

“I felt as if I was an actual teacher” Vanessa.

“I was very impressed with myself for acting like a teacher” Shakirah.

“The day went so quickly because I was having so much fun” Nancy.

“Even though today was very tiring, I still want a job as a teacher” Lola.

Today was really fantastic, we wish it could happen more often!

Act of Memory

Over the last few weeks we have been taking part in an Act of Memory. This is a project led my Monica Ross. She set up the project to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. At first we were quite nervous about the project, especially when we found out that it meant we have to memorise the entire Universal Declaration of Human Rights! Luckily, Monica explained to us that we would need to learn an article each (although some of us chose to do two or three!). Monica gave us some tips on learning it, the most useful was to write our section out from memory and then go back and mark it – a bit like our spellings ‘look, cover, write, check’.
Last Tuesday was the big day! We went to Southwark Cathedral to perform ‘An Act of Memory’. Lots of our parents came to watch us and we also had a few members of the public.
Click here to go to the Act of Memory website!
We did such a great job! Our parents, Miss Deacon and Timi were very proud of us.
Here we are getting read to perform!

What’s in a name, Radio 4

A few weeks ago we were visited by Adele. Adele is a producer for Radio 4. For a Radio show that she was making she wanted to record the register being taken in a school in London. Lucky for us, she chose Cathedral School! We were really excited to know more about it so Adele explained to us that the programme was all about what our name means and how your name can affect how people talk to you and their opinions of you. It made us think about our own names and we discussed where our names originate and why our parents chose these names for us.
What is your name? Do you know why you are called it?

These are some pictures of us being recorded for Radio 4!

You can listen to the radio programme at http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01nq2zp.
We made it onto the show for 10 seconds. If you listen about 20 minutes into the show you might hear us!
