DT Week

Last week we got stuck into DT week and made our own cushions. We decided that we would include our own flag or crest with things that meant something to us. We thought carefully about things we like and things that help make us unique.

We brought in some old t-shirts and used these as the main section of our cushions. We also cut up the spare material to use as stuffing, meaning our cushions are some of the most environmentally friendly cushions out there!

We set about planning our designs before we cut out our shapes and designs from felt. We then stuck them on and began to sew around the edges of our t-shirt. We were careful to leave a gap so that we could stuff them though!

What was your favourite part of DT week? What new skills did you learn?

I really liked DT week!  The one thing I loved about DT week was when we were sewing our cushions together. This meant I could help other people when they were getting stuck on parts, and if there thread had come out of the needle, we could thread it back in easily using a threader. I really liked making cushions!!!

I really enjoyed sewing because I do it quite often at home! When we stuffed we put bits of cut up t-shirt. I found that it was quite fun to cut all the spair t-shirt. We learnt two different types of stitches , one was one to stitch from the inside with no stuffing and the other for stitching from the outside with stuffing in it. The second one could not be seen even if ou stitched it from the outside. And we would not of been able to this activety if Mr Morrel and Janet weren’t there so thank you to both of them!

Making the cushion was really fun. My favourite part was when we stuffed it and because it’s a waste to throw the left over T.shirts away, so we thought that we should use that for stuffing the pillow as well as using the stuffing. ECO FRIENDLY!

It was very fun making our cushions, stitching them, stuffing them, designing our crest and actually making them with felt on to a background felt at first then sticking it onto our pillow.
    It was really fun!
