Book Week 2016

world-book-week

This week was Book Week at Cathedral School. We’ve been taking part in lots of book related activities! Our focus for the week was Anthony Browne and we’ve been looking at lots of different books he wrote. We then planned our own short stories before turning them into our very own picture books!

We also got to spend part of our afternoon reading with Reception which was great fun! They picked the book and we used our exciting reading voices to add expression and really make the stories come to life!

What is your favourite book? What did you enjoy most about Book Week?

DT Week

This week was DT week at Cathedral School. We were set the challenge of designing and creating a building using art straws. We had to carefully plan our design before we built it. We added more art straws to the skeletons of our buildings to make them even stronger and joined them using pva glue.

We also designed and built a building as a class which was then printed on a 3D printer! It was amazing to watch this machine create our design right before our eyes!

What did you enjoy about DT week?

Welcome back!

Hello and welcome back! We’ve had a busy start to the term, starting with Art Week and taking a trip to London CLC for a digital music workshop!

The theme for Art Week was ‘Colourful London’ so we created repeating patterns in the style of TFL tube seats, using them as a background for our collages.

In our digital music workshop, we created our own sound effects before trimming and looping them to build a beat and begin to create our own songs.

Reptile Life

Today we were visited by Rob from Reptile Life to teach us about different animals. This linked in to our science topic of living things and their habitats.
Rob brought in a selection of animals and told us lots of information about them, including about their habitats, their diets and what life is like for them in the wild.
It was great to see and handle some of the animals! We can’t wait to get writing about our fantastic day!
What was your favourite animal? What did you learn today?

Our Iron Man display

So we finished off our Iron Man topic and created this fantastic display to show off all our hard work! We all worked really hard to produce neat work and even got to use silver gel pens to make our writing really stand out.

What pieces of work did you really enjoy doing?

A reply from Buckingham Palace

Recently Class 4 went on a trip to Buckingham Palace as part of a creative writing workshop. It was a great session and we learnt lots about writing creatively and enjoyed our tour around the palace.

We also took along a card to congratulate the Queen on her recent title of longest reining monarch. Today we received a letter from Buckingham Palace to say thank you for all our kind messages.

Here it is:
