Autumn 1 Week 1 – Welcome Back!

Stars of the week: Anusha and Jacob A

Well done to Class 4 for settling into a new class so well!

In English we have started our new class book ‘The Saga of Erik the Viking’ and we have also started to plan out a diary entry where we will be the main characters of our very own Viking Saga. The children have been developing their ambitious language choices to describe the setting and characters of their diary entries.

This week in Maths we have been looking at the place value of numbers, partitioning numbers using Base 10 and looking at representations to solidify understanding. This will help us next week where we shall be rounding numbers to the nearest 10,100 and 1000.

We had a very creative session in Art looking at the work of Picasso and his work in creating cubism. Class 4 had a go at creating wonderful recreations using Picasso’s work as an inspiration.

Summer 2 Week 6 – STOMP

Stars of the week: Astrid and Eyoel

This week the whole school had a visit from one of the original dancers in the west end production of STOMP. Class 4 had a brilliant workshop with him, and learnt the different wants they can create sounds and rhythms just using their body. They learnt a very complex routine in under 15 minutes and then they got into groups to create their own routine.

Also this week, Class 4 enjoyed participating in the Summer Fair. They played lots of brilliant games and won some great prizes! Thank you to the Friends of Cathedral School for organising this.

Summer 2 Week 5 – Cricket Tournament

Stars of the Week: All of Class 4!

This week, Class 4 participated in a local schools cricket tournament, organised by Platform cricket who came into school for 10 training sessions. Around 19 teams from lots of different schools in the Elephant and Castle area also attended.

Throughout the tournament, every child worked hard to show off the skills and techniques they had learnt during the 10-week block, and provided a great competition. From the 19 teams, 2 out of the 3 Cathedral teams made it to the semi-finals and we had a great, competitive match between Cathedral A and Cathedral C in the 3rd and 4th place play-off. Class 4 acted with such maturity and determination throughout the tournament and showed great sportsmanship during, and after every match – by being the first team to initiate the shaking of hands and saying thank you for a great game.

Well done Class 4!

Summer 2 Week 4 – English

Stars of the week: Cam’ron and Belén

This week in Class 4, we had a dilemma to solve! Iron Man has destroyed all the farm machinery and the villagers were getting fed up! We had to decide if Iron Man should be punished or protected. Class 4 created some persuasive arguments for each side, and then we had a very respectful and mature debate over the dilemma. Well done for being so sensible and for listening to each other’s reasons.

Next week, we are going to be writing our persuasive letter to the village mayor to demand he listens to our reasons!
