Stars of the Week: Iyad and Anashe

This sports week, we have had a big focus on sports day. We had a very fun time yesterday and it was great to see so many parents attend! Class 4 were all very good sportspersons and supported each other, whether they were on the same team or not. We had some children that were superb egg balancers and brilliant hurdle jumpers! Well done Class 4.

In maths, we took part in an investigation to find out who had stolen the sacks for the sack bag race. We worked in groups to use the information we were given to decode, using mathematical operations, who the culprit was. Ask Class 4 to find out who stole them!

Stars of the Week: India and Stanley

This week, Class 4 have been looking at mapping our local area. We tried making a map from the school to Southwark Cathedral without looking at a map! We compared it to Google Maps and we were very close with the route. We then wrote a story to describe what the walk is like, spending time thinking about what we see and what we smell along the way.

In DT, we started designing our t shirts that we are going to make in the coming weeks. We decided what tie-dye colours we are going to use and what we are going to embroider on the front.

We are looking forward to carrying on with money in maths next week.

Stars of the Week: Fisayo and Luca

This week, Class 4 have been working really hard in their assessments. They have also done a fantastic job at practicing and performing their fantastic collective worship!

We have continued with our topic of graphs in maths and have applied this in science where we made our own line and bar graphs to show the data we found last week. Next week we will finalise our results and analyse our findings. We will conclude whether we think we have found patterns or not.

In Geography, we continued with our mapping skills and used Ordnance Survey maps. We are now able to use 2 and 4 grid references to describe where something is on a map!

Stars of the Week – Obinna and Joshua

Class 4 have had a very exciting week this week. We have learned more about statistics and how we can represent data in bar graphs. We also took part in the Mathematics World Cup where we did lots of exercise while we did maths in between. We focused on fractions and recapped what we did earlier this year. It ended with a lovely wind down and meditation which kept us calm for the rest of the day.

We made our own non-chronological reports about the Iron Man in English. Although we don’t yet know everything about him, we used our own ideas to fill in all the gaps. We wrote about what he does day to day, what he eats and where he lives.

In science, we carried out our scientific enquiry and we will use our math skills to input our data into graphs next week.

Stars of the Week: Beatrice and Henry

Class 4 have had a fantastic first week of the new half term! We started reading The Iron Man by Ted Hughes as a class and have found it really interesting. In English, we have acted like reporters to ask questions about the Iron Man and write our own speculative answers. We separated facts we knew about the Iron Man from what we guessed about him.

In maths we have been looking at coordinates on the first quadrant. We can now write coordinates of any point making sure that we go ‘along the corridor and up the stairs.’ We also made shapes based on coordinates that were written down.

We are going to start our topic of textiles and we will look at different products that have interesting embroidery and tie dye.

Stars of the Week: Daniel and Mariama

We had a really exciting week in Class 4. All of us thoroughly enjoyed reading all of the poems in Here come the Superheroes by Neal Zetter. The class split in half and some children performed Magnetic Man and the rest performed Shine. Each group created their own actions to include in their recital. We then made our own poem based on a superhero of our own choosing. Lots of children made up their own superhero with their own set of powers!

In science, we went on an invertebrate hunt. An invertebrate is an animal that doesn’t have a backbone. This includes lots of insects that you see every day. We searched around in the peace garden and founds lots of interesting things such as woodlice, ants, aphids and slugs. We even found a frog (but we couldn’t write this down as it has a backbone.)

Stars of the Week: Eliana and Beatrice

We have had an exciting week in Class 4. Last Friday, we had a CLC workshop on coding without computers. We found out about how the allied forces coded messages to send that could not be read easily. We also learned about the Enigma Machine which was used to make messages even harder to decode. We made our own messages in Morse Code and were able to find out what other children were writing.

Next week we are going to make our mosaics that we designed in art.

Stars of the Week: Nathan and Max

This week, we continued looking at decimals. We can now order decimals from smallest to greatest and divide numbers by 10 and 100 into decimals. In English we really focused on our persuasive writing and made brochures to encourage people to go on holiday to Greece.

In History, we focused on the Greek gods and we will write our own Myths in English next week. We are also excited to start make our own mythological beasts in art. We have finished our paper mosaics and will make the real thing before the end of term!

Stars of the Week: Sebastian and Isabella

This week we have been writing persuasive texts to convince someone to live in Ancient Greece or not to live there. We used the acronym AFOREST to help us include persuasive language. Some children wrote that you should live there to join the army as you get your own weapons whereas others wrote you would get sent to war even if you didn’t want to go!

In maths, we have just finished fractions and started decimals (which are related to fractions). We know that 0.1 is one tenth which can also be shown as a fraction. It is just like splitting 1 whole into 10 parts!

We started to design our Ancient Greek mosaics in art and we look forward to making them next week!
