Stars of the Week: Krislyn and Sean

This week in Class 4 we have been telling the time! We looked at how the analog clock is separated into 5 minute intervals and started to tell the time to the nearest minute. Krislyn and Sean paid particular attention to where the minute hand was each time, and double checked that their calculations were correct. Next week, we are going to be looking at solving some worded problems which move time forwards in 5 minute intervals. Please encourage your children to read the time as analog (5 minutes past 4, 25 minutes to 1) and then read it digitally (9:20, 10:15).

 

 

Stars of the Week: Ava and Jomi

This week in Geography we have been creating our own earthquake-proof buildings! First, we looked at the different techniques used to keep a building stable during an earthquake and then replicated them using wooden sticks and marshmallows. Well done to all of class 4 for resisting the temptation to eat any of the marshmallows and using them as the anchor points for their buildings!

 

 

Stars of the Week: Gabrielle and Cruz

This week in English, we have been planning and writing a newspaper report about a sudden volcanic eruption! Class 4 used their homework to help structure their report and thought of some very catchy headlines to start. Some of the headlines were ‘Etna’s Exciting Explosion’, ‘Violent Vesuvius’ and Mr Henshaw’s favourite ‘The very rude int-eruption!’

In Maths this week, we have been looking at addition and subtraction of money. Class 4 worked hard to use column method for both the operations, and weren’t thrown off by the ‘scary’ decimal point.

 

Stars of the Week: Chiugo and Jacob

In PE this week, we have been looking at the different skills required in invasion games; such as netball, hockey and basketball. The first skill we looked at was agility, the importance of staying on our toes so we can change direction quickly. Chiugo and Jacob listened really well to each skill and performed them brilliantly – especially when they were weaving through the cones and balancing a basketball on a tennis racket!

Also this week, we have been completing lots of assessments. Class 4 have worked incredibly hard with all of them, and their continued progress is a true testament to their effort.

Stars of the Week: All of Class 4

On Wednesday this week we had a fantastic visit from Animals UK, who introduced the children to lots of amazing animals! All the children in Class 4 behaved exemplary throughout the whole session (by staying quiet and calm when the animals were being brought out) and Animals UK complimented us on how well behaved they all were. Well done Class 4!

 

 

This week in Computing, we have been learning about the different ways data is collected; such as questionnaires, surveys or measurements. Class 4 used their data collection knowledge to collect data of their own, by measuring the different light and sound levels and recording them.

We had a brilliant World Book Day this year! The children enjoyed mystery readers from the teachers,  followed by reading some books to reception!

Stars of the Week: Scarlett and Ethan

This Week in Class 4 we have been reading our World Book Day book – Rock Bottom! This story is all about a boy who wants the best part in the school’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream but it all goes wrong! We used this story to help us re-write A Midsummer Night’s Dream, by changing the plot and problems that the characters face. Scarlett and Ethan came up with some brilliant ideas of how they can change the roles of Demetrius, Lysander, Helena and Hermia.

This week in Class 4, we have started our new PSHE topic of Democracy. We looked at the various people who are in positions of power and what the word democracy means. Class 4 started to create their own countries and thought about the different democracies they would have, along with the laws they would introduce.

Stars of the Week: Aarav and Daniela

This week was History Day! Our topic this term was the Tudors and so we all dressed up in the style of Tudors and had a very fun day completing Tudor-style activities! From organising a banquet for the King, to writing a letter to the monarchy to warn them of a potential attack! Happy History Day!

Stars of the Week: Belén and Eyoel

This week in Maths, Class 4 we have been looking at decimal numbers. We learnt that a tenth is larger than a hundredth and started to compare two or more numbers to find the largest. Belén and Eyoel showed great focus towards the value of each digit and compared them to other numbers.

In History this week, we have been looking at Tudor inventions. Class 4 researched some facts about the different Tudor inventions, from the creation of a fork to the flushing toilet! They created some great presentations about each invention, along with their function and purpose.
