Portraits

Portraits

Year 5 have been looking at portraits, we have considered how artists used a range of pencil and brush strokes to create tone and texture.

Composition is very important. What is in a portrait can give an impression of who the subject was and what their interests and achievements are.

Here are some of our portraits and why we have composed them:

“I have thought carefully about the composition of my portrait and how it can represent me. I have decided to include a tennis bat and a ball because I love tennis and it inspires me. It’s kind of a hidden talent. I love it when the ball is whacked gracefully like waltzing on strictly come dancing.”

“I have thought hard about my photo and this is what I thought. I will have myself with one ball with a table and on the table will be some books and a dog and other animals next to it. I  also will have a guitar or a different instrument next to me.”

“I thought carefully about the composition of my portrait and how it represents me. I have decided to include my guitar and a hymn book because I love music it is my inspiration.”

“I have thought carefully about the composition of my portrait and how it can represent me. I have decided to include all types of books because I really enjoy reading all types of things. I have also included some World War II posters because I am very interested in that period.”

What do these portraits tell you about these children?

Tigers!!

Year 5 really enjoyed researching our Tiger theme this term.  Children enjoyed having the opportunity to develop their literacy skills through choosing a genre to share their learning and ideas about Tigers.  Here is some of the writing we have done.

Tiger by Archie, Tiger Fact File by Arthur, The Greedy Tiger by Celia, Tiger Poem by Daniel, Tigers Life by Emily and Georgia, Tigers by Emmanuel, The Tiger by Faruq
