Welcome to Class 5 – we’re all looking forward to a successful year

Hello and welcome to Class 5. I’m very happy to be teaching you all this year, and I’m also very excited to announce that we’ve got lots of wonderful learning opportunities already planned for the new academic year!

We’ll be going on lots of trips and welcoming lots of visitors to our class, as well as completing all the usual fun and informative lessons that you’ll enjoy. We’re particularly lucky to be welcoming a new student to our class from the start of term and I know that everyone will make sure that she can settle in quickly and that she can feel happy and safe in Cathedral School (we could really show everyone that we’re a Rights Respecting School by how well we welcome new people into our school).

For anyone who wants to start their learning early, there is a link to a word document below that details the first spelling pattern we will be learning in Year 5 (look out for the Extension Challenge as well, I know you’re a very intelligent class so there’ll be plenty of extra challenges for you this year). We will be completing our first Spellings Test during the second week of term – Au1 Wk2 – so you’ve got plenty of time to learn these 10 spellings.

Spelling Hwk – Au1 Wk2 – ious

In addition, our first multiplication test will be on the 6 x table. If you already feel confident with this times table then you can extend yourself by working out related division facts – e.g. 6 x 7 = 42 so 42 / 6 = 7 and 42 / 7 = 6 and you can also extend yourself by working out related decimal multiplication facts – e.g. 8 x 6 = 48 so 0.8 x 6 = 4.8 and 8 x 0.06 = 0.48

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at school on Tuesday,

Mr Antcliffe
