During the Su2 half-term, Class 5 will be studying the parables that Jesus taught. The parables are stories but stories that have a meaning and that teach us many messages. It is the messages and meaning within the stories that are key to understanding the importance of the parables. The messages within the parables are as important and relevant today as they were in Jesus’ lifetime.
Here is an overview of some of the most important parables. Once you are familiar with the content of the stories then you can start to think of what the meaning is within the parables and how that message applies to the world around us today.

The Good Samaritan
The message in the Good Samaritan, I think, is to help others, no matter where they com from, their religion or anything like that. That was what the Good Samaritan showed, he was a different religion to the man who had been mugged, but he still helped. Jews and Samaritans were the same religion, but they had different ideas on their religious laws. The analogy in the parable is that the Good Samaritan felt sorry for the man, as lots of people walked past him and didn’t help. It shows how kind and rude some people can be, the kindness coming from the Good Samaritan helping him and the rudeness coming from the muggers and the people who walked past him. I think these things are as bad as each other.
