Stars of the Week: Carter and Noella

This week, Class 5 made their pulley systems in DT. They brought in recycled materials from home and made structures. Some children realised that they needed improvements to their structures that they planned and added more parts to them. Class 5 were very good at adapting what they were doing as they did it which meant that their evaluations will be great!

 

   

 

Stars of the Week: Annamaria and Terrence

Last Friday, Class 5 all dressed for World Book Day. There were lots of fantastic costumes that Year 5 wore, with lots of different books thought about. Class 5 did a wonderful job reading with Year 1 and made sure that everyone was being read with.

This week, we had a visit from some animals. We were shown a chameleon, a snake, a tarantula and a fennec fox. It was really interesting to see and touch (and smell in some cases) these animals as they are not normally seen in this country.

Stars of the Week: All of Class 5

Well done Class 5 for your hard work to do your best in your Assembly this week! You sung beautifully and spoke very clearly throughout. Great job!

This week, we had Naz from the London Fire Brigade. He spoke to us about how to make sure we keep our homes safe and what we should do in an emergency. Naz was impressed by the engagement from the class.

Stars of the Week: Alpha and Parker

This week, Class 5 have started their English topic studying The Highwayman by Alfred Noyes. We read the poem as a class and discussed each stanza. Class 5 then used the second paragraph to make their own images of the Highwayman, labelling the different parts that came from the poem.

Stars of the Week: Nifemi and Ben

This week, Class 5 celebrated History Day as Victorians. They all dressed as different people from different jobs and made the classroom really feel like it was in the 19th century. In maths, they made pie charts, similar to those that Florence Nightingale made, about what jobs Victorian children would want to do. For some reason, being a chimney sweep was not a popular choice. In English, the children wrote a diary entry from the point of view of Queen Victoria on the day she became queen.

Stars of the Week: Joni and Charles

This week, Class 5 had a fantastic opportunity to learn about Sikhism at a Gurdwara. We went to the Central Gurdwara in Shepherd’s Bush where we took our shoes off and put head coverings on.

We were then taken into the main hall where we has a talk from a Sikh about their faith. They talked about the Gurus and their beliefs. They also spoke about the 5 Ks that Sikhs have and what they mean.

After our talk, we went to Langar, which is their free kitchen. They served us all up some rice and bean dahl.

Stars of the Week: Alphie and Amaris

This week, Class 5 carried out an experiment to find out which cup was the best thermal insulator. They made sure that each cup had the same amount of water, with the same starting temperature. They found that the travel mug was the best insulator as it kept the water at the highest temperature compared to the others. Everyone made sure that they accurately read the thermometers by moving their heads to be level with them.

Stars of the Week: Amelia and Shaye

This week, Class 5 started experimenting with coil pottery. They used clay to make coils and wound them up to form patterns. Class 5 will be using this same technique in the coming weeks to make their own pots in the Native American style.

Stars if the Week: Morraya and Shia

This week, Class 5 visited a workhouse. They took an interactive walk around the building on the laptops. As they went through each room, they wrote what they saw down. They then used their notes to write a setting description of a workhouse, thinking about how it would look if it was still used.

In History, Class 5 learned about what it was like to be a child in the Victorian times. They were all very shocked to hear about the jobs that children would have to do if they were from a poor family.

Next week, we will be using the BBC:Microbits to make our own flashcards to help memorise different fruits in Spanish.
