Progressing

In Class 6, we have a lot to learn! We want to ensure that every single person in the class is able to produce their best work in every subject!

Here are some tips to help you make the most progress:

Reading:

  1. Read every day by yourself, and make sure that you are always asking questions as a reader, so that you fully understand the text. Make sure that you read a variety of genre, fiction and non-fiction.
  2. If you aren’t sure which book to read next, ask a teacher, or classmate for advice, or have a look on the book reviews page to see what your friends recommend: https://www.cathedralprimaryschool.com/class6/book-reviews/
  3. Read, or discuss what you have read, with an adult at home at least 3 times per week, and ask them to sign your reading record.

Writing:

  1. Keep your word bank up to date when you are reading and use the vocabulary in your writing.
  2. Make yourself a checklist of things to include in your writing (for example adverbial clauses), and set yourself a challenge of using all of them in one piece of work.
  3. Make comments on the school website, and ensure they are high quality writing.

Maths

  1. Go on Mathletics at least 5 times per week.
  2. Practice your times tables and division facts every day.
  3. Take sheets from the Maths Practice drawer.

A tip I would give is if you have nothing to do and you have free time always use that time to read, write a description or even do some maths on mathletics or test yourself with some problems. The tips that have really helped me the most are to read everyday and that will help me to understand a story and to write what I’m thinking or discover new vocabulary, and for me to do extra writing on a description or do a short story so my story or description are interesting and alive. The thing that I need to work on is to make sure I practise some extra maths work to help me achieve the best I can.
