This term, our History topic is World War 1. This is particularly pertinent as we commemorate the centenary of the war beginning; we have already visited the poppies at the Tower of London. We will link this to our Literacy topic of biography, and – building on the work we have done in developing our understanding and engagement with poetry – looking at the life of Wilfred Owen.

I love WW1 even though I don’t know much about it, but I am looking forward to learning about it, especially learning about the courageous efforts of our soldiers in order to serve our country. We have already learnt about the symbol of a poppy and why it is used as a form of remembrance to commemorate all the people who have lost their lives in battles and conflicts, in this learning we were lucky enough to see the spectacular exhibition of poppies at the Tower which have been laid to commemorate 100 years of WW1 ending.

Focusing on Wilfred Owen I really enjoyed it! The thing I enjoyed most was researching the facts because on his websites there were some things that I didn’t know about Wilfred Owen!
