Flashbacks

This week, we finished our flashbacks about ‘The Piano’ – a sad tale of an old man reflecting on his life. We discussed using emotive language and building description to engage the reader and add depth to our work.

    As his chubby, webbed fingers danced on the snow white keys, it created a harmonic tune. As he looked down at his fingers, he saw his bronze coloured wedding ring and it sparked his memory of her. A tear rolled down his cheek.

    He was alone. His aged fingers ran across the snow white keys gracefully. The melodic tune echoed throughout the isolated room. Then, he caught sight of his rose gold ring on his shrivelled finger. His memories ran back as if they were a book of that treasured time…

    Alone, he played his downcast ballad as his depressed face reflected onto the matte black piano. The sorrowful notes bounced of the cavernous walls, creating a gentle echo. His wrinkled fingers danced across the ivory keys. As his gold wedding ring gleamed onto his aged face, he was forced to remember…
    His wife joins him on the majestic stool, her left hand playing the piano, her right arm embracing him considerably. Her hazel green eyes shimmer onto the mahogany keyboard. As her unmistakable scent wafts across the room, she plants a delicate kiss onto his cheek. A brief smile etches across his face, suddenly transforming into a frown as her presence leaves for good.

    His wife appears and sings her favourite part of the smooth, quiet tune her husband is playing. He could remember her lovely strawberry perfume moving in the air, as she leans over and gives him a big kiss and he gives her a brief smile, leaving him alone in the echoing dark room, fading away.

    The lonely man sat on his leather clad stool, his fingers dancing over the mahogany keys. He slowly sat back and shut his eyes, allowing the music to wash over him. His weathered old hands flew over to tap a key, and as he did so, he glimpsed his gold wedding ring, which was covered in strange words and symbols carved all over the it. Slowly, he sat back and rested his eyes…
