Issue #06 – 20/10/2010 – DT Week

[heading]DT Week[/heading]

Dear Parents,

It is the end of a very busy half-term. Thank you to all of you for attending Parents' Evening. The teachers were pleased to meet you all and we hope you found it useful.

DT Week
Last week we had DT Week at Cathedral School and the theme was ‘Transport’. Children produced some excellent pieces of work, from sailing boats and cars, to horse and carriages.

All classes carefully designed their vehicles, thinking about how it would move and what materials would be appropriate for them to use and then completed evaluations at the end of DT Week.

Children were so proud of their work and it was lovely to see the high quality displays in the hall during the exhibition. Please look on the class blogs to see more photos of your child’s DT work and the steps they took to make their chosen transport.

School Food Matters
This term some of our Rights Champions are taking part in a sustainable food project. It is run by School Food Matters, a charity that promotes food education and campaigns for fresh sustainable food in schools.

On Wednesday we went to Borough Market and were taken on a tour of various stalls, hearing about where the foods are from and the ingredients that are used.
We were also lucky enough to taste a selection of Italian baked goods, and started thinking about different foods from different cultures.

After half-term we will be visiting a FareShare Depot, who redistribute surplus food to charities which turn it into meals for families across Southwark.

Have a restful break.
