Issue #07 – 03/11/2017 – The Cathedral Maths Challenge

[heading]The Cathedral Maths Challenge [/heading]

Dear Parents,

Last year, the Cathedral Maths Challenge was introduced to get pupils using their wide range of maths skills to solve problems. This year it is back, and we are hoping to see lots of wonderful entries over the challenge.

Every week there will be a different maths challenge in the newsletter and on the Maths blog, for pupils to try at home. There will be different challenges for pupils in EYFS, KS1 and KS2.

After working through the problem at home, pupils can then bring their solutions to the challenge to school, putting them in the Maths Challenge Box in the office by the end of the day on Thursday. During our celebration assembly on Friday mornings children that have taken part will be celebrated in the following ways:

  • the names of the pupils that have completed the challenge will be displayed and they will be asked to stand up for a round of applause.
  • 2 children from each class will invited to the front of the hall to receive a special maths sticker. These children will be selected based on the quality of their work.
  • We also celebrate the class that are C.M.C Champions for the week. This award is based on the quality of the explanations (written, pictorial or scribed by an adult)

On the Maths Blog, you will be able to see who has completed the Maths Challenge for the week, some of the solutions we received and which class are the C.M.C Champions for the week.

You can see some of the past challenges and solutions on the school Maths blog here.

Here is the first challenge for this year. Printed copies of the challenge are also available at the office.

Best wishes,

Miss Godsell
Assistant Headteacher
