Issue #01 – 03/09/12 – Welcome Back

[heading style="2"]Welcome Back[/heading]

Dear Parents,

I hope that you and your family had a wonderful summer. As a staff we have all enjoyed welcoming the children back to school today and hearing about their holidays, especially their response to the Olympics. The day started with a welcome back assembly that focused on the Olympics and how we could learn from our gold medal winning athletes and teams. The children had some thoughtful ideas including; believe in yourself, be prepared, always try your best, make sure you come to school every day, be on time, listen to your coach/teacher, persevere, work together, be respectful.  Cathedral School will be building on the legacy of the Olympics this year not only through PE provision but by continuing to explore the Olympic values.

This summer also saw the birth of two Cathedral School babies; Amy Morrow gave birth to Theo James and Jenny Bailey gave birth to Florence Katie, we are all thrilled for them and look forward to a visit soon. Charlotte Palmer’s baby is due late this month.

The new outside area by the Key Stage 1 and Reception classrooms has been completed, giving these classes increased opportunities for outside learning. The response from the children has been fantastic, especially as they help to design it!

Thank you for the overwhelmingly positive response to the parental questionnaire as the end of last term. There are 115 families at school, 100 of which responded to the questionnaire. 100% of parents said they would recommend Cathedral School to other parents. This is something we are very proud of. We were also grateful for the constructive feedback you gave us on ways to improve. This year as a school we will continue to work with parents and act on feedback where appropriate.

[box title="Volunteers Required" color="#0D83DD"]The first few weeks of term will see finishing touches being made to the library and the new planters in the Key Stage 1 area. If you would like to help with the gardening or the library we would be grateful for any parent volunteers. Please let the office know if you would like to help.[/box]
[box title="New Staff" color="#0D83DD"]I’m also pleased to welcome some new members of staff, Miss Dace who will be teaching in the Nursery, Miss Jeyaratnum in Year 2, Miss Deacon in Year 4, Miss Fullana in Year 5 and Mr Dobson in Year 6. Mr Thompson will be covering teacher’s non-contact time across the school along with Miss Godsell and Miss McNamara.[/box]
[box title="New Look Newsletter" color="#0D83DD"]This year also sees a new look to the newsletter. It can be viewed as a webpage as well as printed out for parents who prefer to receive it in that way. The next 25 important dates in the school calendar can be seen on the right. A full list can be found on the school webpage at:  http://www.cathedralprimaryschool.com/parents/important-dates/[/box]

[box title="Uniform and Bags" color="#0D83DD"]Just a reminder that hair accessories should be in the Key Stage colour. (Eg. KS1 Blue and white, KS2 Red and white).

And, due to limited space in the classrooms, could you ensure your child brings a relatively small bag, similar in size to the ones on display in the reception area. The school office has some available for sale. [/box]

Once again, I wish you all a wonderful start  to the new term and look forward to speaking to you soon,

Best wishes,
