Issue #10 – 09/12/16 – Christmas at Cathedral School

[heading]Christmas at Cathedral School[/heading]

Dear Parents,

Congratulations to Year 5 who led our Christmas worship this morning at Southwark Cathedral. Their performance of ‘Mary, Mary’ was so accomplished and really brought the Christmas story to life. They were accompanied by the beautifully singing voices of Years 2, 3, 4 and 6. The congregation were also treated to a performance of ‘Mary had a Baby’ by Nursery, Reception and Year 1. For more photos of the service please visit the school blog.

Christmas is always a busy and very special time at Cathedral School and with this in mind please see below for main Christmas events and arrangements:

post-boxChristmas Cards

We have a post box outside the office for children's school Christmas cards. These will be distributed to classes after lunch each day. Please ask your child to write the recipient's name and class clearly on each envelope.

Christmas Jumper Day

Christmas Jumper Day will take place on Wednesday 14th December. The children can replace their school jumper with a Christmas jumper for the day (children should wear school uniform skirt/trousers, shirt, shoes etc. as usual).

This is a nationwide initiative with all proceeds going to Save the Children.

  • Please can children bring a donation of £2 to school in a named envelope
  • Children can wear a Christmas jumper to school on 14th December (the jumper can be home-made)
  • If children do not have a Christmas jumper they can wear a jumper containing Christmas colours to school on that day (red, green etc.)
  • Please do not wear trainers or high heeled shoes or boots to school

Christmas Lunch

School Christmas lunch will be served on the 14th December, complete with tinsel, Christmas crackers and lots of Christmas cheer.

Christmas Parties

The Key Stage 1 party is on Tuesday 20th December and Key Stage 2 will have their party on Wednesday 21th December. If your child is in Key Stage 1 or 2 and would like to wear party clothes they may bring them to school in a named bag and get changed just before the party.

Please note no high-heeled shoes are to be worn and there is no need to bring in food or drink as the parties will take place after lunch.

Christmas ‘Stay and Play’ & Foundation Stage Nativity Play

The Nursery and Reception Nativity play will be performed at 9am on Wednesday the 14th of December.

Following the performance, parents are invited to participate in a Christmas ‘Stay and Play’ session complete with Christmas themed activities such as painting, making decorations and carol singing! The ‘Stay and Play’ sessions will finish at 10.15am.

A separate letter has been sent out to Nursery and Reception parents regarding EYFS Christmas parties and Stay and Play sessions.

In November the school was featured in the Sunday Times Top 100 schools. There are about 19,000 primary schools in the country so to be ranked 46th is a fantastic achievement.

We are proud of the pupils and members of staff who worked so hard for these outcomes, as well as the very supportive parent community. It is our families’ sense of commitment to our school that drive us to persevere in our relentless pursuit of excellence for all of our pupils.
