Issue #19 – 17/03/17 – Science Week

[heading]Science Week[/heading]

Dear Parents,

As you are aware, it was British Science this week, and at Cathedral School we have been celebrating this by joining in with a week of Science.

On Tuesday, we were visited by Professor Whizz-Kid. He had an extremely busy day, visiting each year group, sharing his scientific knowledge as he went. There was a lot of laughing and learning in his workshops from Nursery and Reception, all the way along the corridor to Year 6!

There have also been some very special experiments happening throughout the school…

From rainbow making in Year 1…

to potato-cress heads in Year 3!

Pupils have also been focusing on using scientific enquiry skills to figure out what is in the box! They had to think like scientists and explain their reasoning to each other.

In addition, we have had some wonderful volunteers come into our classes and talk to the children about their science-based jobs. On behalf of Cathedral School, thank you to Marta Anjari, Sarah Scott and Amber Arnold. The children were enthralled, interested, and eager to learn more! Thank you so much for giving up your time – you truly helped to make Science Week extra special!

Finally, thank you to you, the parents, for your continued support. We have had some wonderful feedback about Science Week which has been great to hear.

I hope you have a lovely weekend, and enjoy the weather!

On Friday 24th March we will be raising money for Red Nose Day 2017.

School Council thought about ways in which the school could take part. We would like to invite children to wear a Red Nose to school on the day, and bring in a donation of £2. Red Noses can be bought for £1 from most supermarkets. Pupils are also encouraged to wear red tights, socks or shoe laces or red ribbons/clips in their hair if they wish.

Red Nose Day is all about humour, so we will be encouraging all the pupils, staff, parents and governors to make sure they have their best jokes ready. Children will have the opportunity to share them with in class and possibly in assembly!

The money we raise will help people living really tough lives in the UK and across Africa. For example, £2.50 could buy a mosquito net to protect a family in Africa. In the UK, £5 could pay for an isolated elderly person with dementia to have dinner at their local support group. On their behalf, thank you.

School Council really appreciate your support and hope that you’ll have fun helping raise lots of money for Red Nose Day!

[box title="Valuing Parental Feedback" color="#0D83DD"]

The Governing Body and Senior Leadership Team feel it is very important to listen to and act on parental feedback in order to continue to improve the school. With this in mind there will be the chance to speak to a member of the senior leadership team and a governor on the morning of Tuesday 28th March. This will take the form of a series of 15 minute, informal meetings where parents can constructively discuss their ideas with senior leaders and a governor. Please contact June or Janice in the office if you wish to book a slot.
