Issue #25 – 26/05/17 – International Week

[heading]International Week[/heading]

Dear Parents,

International Week started in style with collective worship featuring our our friends at Citichoir and The Cathedral School Choir . It was such a wonderful way to start the International Week festivities. The whole school listened to captivating and joyful versions of Stand by Me, Jabula Jesu, Swing Low Medley and a world premier of a new arrangement of We are the World.

Each class spent the week finding out about a different country, including food, art, music and physical geography. Many thanks to parents who visited classes to share stories, food and information about their country. On Friday children had the opportunity to dress in national dress, clothes that represent their country or the country they have been studying in class. Please see individual class blogs for more information on how each class spent the week.

Huge congratulations to all of the children, parents and staff who contributed to Cathedral Primary School’s International Evening on Thursday 25th May. The evening was an opportunity to celebrate our wonderfully diverse school community through song, dance, karate, music and spoken word.

International Evening is also an opportunity to get together as a school community and taste a variety of foods from around the world, many thanks to all of the parents and staff who provided the food for the interval.

The staff at Cathedral School are incredibly proud of the children and believe that International Evening is an important way to showcase their talent and interests and celebrate our own diverse community. Please see the School Blog for photos of the event.

We would once again like to thank all the performers, parents and staff who contributed to a superb evening.

On behalf of the staff at Cathedral School I would like to wish you all a wonderful half term.

Best wishes,

Mrs Scott

Headteacher

Well done to all the participants in this weeks Maths Challenge. You can see who participated and some of their solutions on the school maths blog here. This challenge will need to be put into the CMC box by Thursday 8th June - and don't forget to explain your answers, as that's what great mathematicians do!

[box title="Online Safety at Half Term" color="#0D83DD"]

With the half term holiday taking place next week teachers have been reminding pupils about being responsible online. We are aware that during the holidays most pupils will be spending some time online. The key messages are as follows:

  • Value the internet as a resource but use it wisely, this includes using safe search engines such as safesearchkids.com and restricting searches to appropriate subject matter only. Parents can activate the ‘safe search’ setting on devices at home.
  • Not to reveal personal information about themselves, their school or where they live.
  • To talk to adults at school or home to report online concerns or to complete a DIGI referral on the school website which is followed up by staff at the school
  • Interact respectfully online, ensuring they are courteous and kind to their peers
  • Use their school email address for educational purposes only. It is not to be used to sign up to non-educational websites or for chat

We always encourage pupils to talk to their parents or another trusted adult about their online activities.

We’d like to share the following links:

www.thinkuknow.co.uk.

These websites will provide you with more information on keeping your child safe online, including guidance on activating parental settings, monitoring sites/games and resources to facilitate conversations with your child.
