Autumn

We have been enjoying the autumnal weather this week, and gathered up lots of autumn leaves and sycamore seeds from the nursery garden. We looked closely at all the different colours in the leaves, and found out that the sycamore seed pods spin like helicopters in the breeze. What other signs of autumn have you noticed recently?

Class Recipe Book

Nursery worked so hard on their cooking skills this term, we decided to make a recipe book for The Tiger Who Came to Tea. As well as a book for our class, we displayed our efforts in the corridor to teach the rest of the school about butter-making, sandwiches and cupcakes.

How do cakes change from when they are raw to when they are cooked? Can you think of any words to describe the texture?
How do you think butter is made by shaking or churning milk?

Curriculum Evening

Many thanks to all the parents who attended Nursery curriculum evening, I hope you found it useful!

We really value your support with name writing. Please encourage your child to write their name independently each morning. You can help by talking about the letter shapes and modelling correct letter formation by tracing letters with your finger. It is a skill your child will practise every day at nursery, so it doesn’t need to be perfect right away (please don’t write it for them)!

Below are some photos from Curriculum Evening showing how everyday experiences could be used to extend your child’s learning in maths and literacy.

Here is a video of some children at Cathedral Primary School saying all 26 single letter sounds correctly:

Please leave a comment to let us know what you’ve been enjoying at home and share your ideas!

RE – What makes us special?

We are learning about what makes us special and have been sharing our talents and abilities. We are also talking about people who are special to us and finding out how we can care for others.

Have a look at some of the artwork we made to celebrate ourselves and our families.
