Fairy Tales

We have begun a topic on fairy tales and castles this term, and began by writing some Fairy Godmother spells for Cinderella. Here is the display in our new writing corner:

Come and take a closer look next time you are in class!

We have also been busy in our role play castle, and have made golden goblets, crowns, towers and a chandelier to make it really special.

What else could we add to our classroom to continue the fairy tale?

Can you think of any other stories set in a castle?

What a fantastic theme! I love all the crafts and activities so far! So is it only fairy tales set around castles? If so it might be fun to do some crafts to make dragons or Knights armour (shield with foil?). Then this is a bit ridiculous but the whole princess and the pea story – we we were little we thought it was so fun to say we could totally feel the pea so the kids could take turns lying on a rug and saying if they can feel the pea! (Sorry that’s totally impractical!). Collages of castles or collages of ball dresses (a bit like those sticker books where you stick on the outfits) with glitter etc. Then I saw a drawbridge made out of toilet rolls on Pinterest (!). Any craft involving rapunzels hair!! Like toilet roll towers with lolly stick rapunzels with long wool hair! (Or just long hair wigs!). Finally, not castle related but I bet the kids would love to make a gingerbread house a la hansel and gretel!

Thank you for the suggestions! I have been thinking about counting and adding mattresses for the princess and the pea, and maybe learning to plait Rapunzel’s hair, a good fine motor challenge. Have a read of The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch; we’ve been really enjoying it in class this week.
