International Week

We have been learning about China during International week, and have enjoyed exploring traditional music, stories, dance, food and calligraphy, as well as finding out about the wildlife of China and modern cities like Hong Kong.

We have made an interactive book using the Book Creator app to show all our learning.

On Friday, we dressed in national dress or the colours of a flag to celebrate our diverse school community.

Spring Nature

We have been very lucky to see life starting around us this term!

A few weeks ago, we visited the ducklings that had hatched out in Reception. We then found out there were tadpoles and newts in the pond in Redcross Gardens. When Sara and some members of the class went to get some, they found an enormous snail too! We also saw a bee with pollen on its legs in our garden.

Here are some of the things the class said about the snail: “Snails go really slowly.” “The snail is so slimy and soft.” “They live in shells”.

Here are some of the things the class said about tadpoles: “What are they doing in the leaf? They might be hiding.” “Are they eating it?”

Here are some questions we had about newts: “Why does he live in the water?” “Is he going to grow big?”

Max even made up an action song about bees with these words: “The bee’s going in the flower to get some honey.”

Animated Fairy Stories

We used castle characters to create stop-motion animations using the “I Can Animate” app on the iPad. We found out about how some of the TV shows we like are made. It was amazing seeing the characters brought to life!

Addition

We are currently working on practical addition in nursery, with a little help from our fairy tale theme!

This week, we are adding different coloured mattresses on the Princess and the Pea’s bed. Last week, we added up different amounts of dragon’s treasure. Here are some photos of some members of nursery using the adding resources independently.

For parents: Begin by supporting your child to recognise numerals, and to be able to choose the correct number of objects to match each numeral. When they can do this confidently, children can then begin to add two groups of objects by counting all of them.
