Stars of the week: All of Nursery (and their parents!)!
Last week we had a wonderfull Stay and Play session with our grown ups. Everyone participated enthusiastically and from the smiles in the photos, its safe to say that everyone had an enjoyable afternoon, ending with some delicious fruit skewers made by Nursery!

Well done to all of Nursery who have had a really busy week! Not only have we been enjoying being pirates looking for treasure, but we have also had Stay and Play with our grown ups and our first ever trip out of school. Miss Bailey, Miss Godsell and Debbie are all proud of how well you have done this week Nursery! You are all superstars!
We enjoyed going on our very first trip out of school this week. We visited Sainburys purchase some fruit to make some healthy fruit skewers to share with our parents at stay and play. In pairs we walked sensibly on the footpath to Sainburys. When we were there we carefully chose the fruit that we had written on our shopping list. We were ready to pay for it, but the kind manager in Sainsburys donated the fruit to our school. When we came back to school we cut the fruit up and made some lovely skewers to share at Stay and Play. Our photos from Stay and Play will be shared early next week – thank you to all the grown ups who came to play with us!

Next week: In Phonics we will be continuing to practise our blending and segmenting skills. In maths, we will be applying all we have learnt this year by playing maths games. We will be getting ready for reception too, practising our independence in the class and having lunch like we will when we are in Reception.
Stars of the Week: Christine and Toby.
Well done to Christine and Toby who were subitising superstars this week! Both children are able to subitise – which is where you can say how many there are without counting! Well done both of you!
In Maths this week, we practised our subitising, comparing and sorting skills by being explorers! First we had to find some ladybirds that were hiding in our classroom. We made sure to use our binoculars! All of the ladybirds had different numbers of spots on them. Once we had found the ladybirds, we practised subitising and then sorted the ladybirds into groups. Here are some photos of us enjoying our subitising!
Next week: Arrrrr… we are pirate explorers, following treasure maps! In Phonics we will look at the letter w, as well as continue to practice our blending and segmenting by finding treasure. In Maths, we make sure our treasure chests are beautifully decorated y exploring patterns. We are also really looking forward to Stay and Play on Wednesday with our grown ups!
Stars of the week: Grace and Jonah
Well done to Grace and Jonah who this week were enthusiastic learners in our new role play area – the campsite! They (along with all the other Nursery children) enjoyed being explorers, finding minibeasts and having a lovely picnic! Everyone has also enjoyed pretending to sleep in the tent too!
Next week: In phonics we will be learning the ‘v’ sound, as well as continuing to practice blending and segmenting. In maths we will be doing some super subitising, as well as counting actions too!
Stars of the Week: Micah and Henry
Well Done to Micah and Henry who this week enthusiastically joined in with our work on Starry Night. We looked at the famous painting by Vincent Van Gogh and spoke about what we could see in the painting, and we gave our opinion on if we liked it or not. We then had a go at making our own version using finger painting! Well done!
Next Week It is our assessment week, where we will see all the wonderful learning we have done in Nursery!
Today we word lovely colourful socks to raise money for Chloe. Chloe is sadly fighting cancer, but the money we raised today will help fund her treatment. We are sending our best wishes to Chloe and her family.
Stars of the week: Charlie & Annabella
In class this week we have continued to learn about rhyme, playing rhyming bingo! Annabella and Charlie have done a fantastic job, being able to match the cards in our game and thinking of extra words to create a rhyming string. Well done you two!
We were lucky enough to have a visit on the last day of Summer 1 from Neal Zetter. Neal is a poet! We looked at his book ‘Odd Socks’ throughout the week, and it helped us to practise our rhyming. Here are some photos of us enjoying Neal’s performance.
Stars of the week: ALL OF NURSERY!
Well Done to all of Nursery for taking such good care of our three ducklings, Donald, Daisy and Debbie. Every day Nursery would check that the ducklings had enough food, water and if their brooder was clean. Well done Nursery for showing such caring, we are very proud of you!
This week we finalised our topic ‘What’s in the egg?’. We cared for our ducklings, took them for their first swim and then sent them to the farm on Thursday. Here are photos of us enjoying our time with our ducklings.
We thought of the ways that we can take care of the ducklings too.
Next Half term: We are going to embark on our explorers topic! We are continuing our phonics learning, making sure that we are practicing our segmenting and blending. In Maths we will continue to explore concepts such as adding and subtracting practically. We are also going to be continuing to develop our independence in preparation for our transition to Reception. Have a wonderful half-term break!

We are hoping that the other two eggs which have cracked will hatch over the weekend!
Nursery are very excited about the ducks and have enjoyed watching them this morning!

Stars of the week: Alexander and Alberto
Alberto and Alexander have been very excited about the hatching of an animal in Nursery. They made some great predictions about what might hatch, and have been making sure that the eggs are being looked after in the incubator. Well done!
On Monday a visitor bought in an incubator. Nursery learnt what an incubator does – it helps to keep eggs warm, and helps them to hatch! We all made a prediction about what might hatch from the eggs.
We have been patiently waiting and at the time of posting this blog, there are cracks in 3 of our eggs, but nothing has emerged just yet! You will have to check back next week to see what hatches from the eggs!
Next Week: We will be caring for the animals that hatch, and thinking about how we look after them. In Phonics we will be learning about the letter ‘f’ and also be learning about rhyme. This is perfect timing because next week is Poetry Week at Cathedral School, and on Friday we will be meeting the poet Neal Zetter. An exciting week ahead!
