Yesterday we were very excited to be heading to the Cathedral (some of us for the very first time!) to greet Queen Elizabeth and Prince Phillip as they arrived to see the Diamond Jubilee window. All week, we had been practicing what to say if the Queen spoke to us and working hard to make our flags so that we could wave them for the Queen.

We set off with our Year 6 helpers, who spoke to us about Road Safety and how important it is that we cross the road carefully.

When we arrived we waited excitedly in the courtyard until the Queen made her arrival. She looked beautiful in her purple hat and coat. We cheered and waved our flags. While she was inside the Cathedral we sang songs, did some exercises to keep warm and talked to each other.

When she came back outside we cheered again and waved to the Queen. Prince Phillip even stopped and had a chat to Sara about how clever we all were!

In the afternoon, we drew some pictures of the Queen and Prince Phillip. We had a day that we won’t forget for a very long time!

 

    

This week at school is DT Week. It means that we have the opportunity to design, make and evaluate a product. In Reception we have been very busy! Our project is to design and make a photo frame.

On Monday we completed our designs. We were shown the materials we could use to make our frames and set about designing them.

On Tuesday we started to make the frames. Using our selected materials, we followed our designs. We are still busy making them so that they are ready for the school exhibition on Monday. We can’t wait to see what they will look like!

On Monday as we were setting up, we were very surprised to find a frog hiding among the activities. Sara bravely caught the frog and then returned him safely to Redcross Gardens.

This week, Reception have begun their new topic of celebrations. Luckily for us, there are celebrations happening this week! We have learnt about Guy Fawkes and why we celebrate Bonfire Night. We spoke about all the different fireworks we have seen, and even made some beautiful pictures of them.
