Gymnastics Fun!

Last week, we had a very exciting PE lesson! We got lots of different apparatus out to practise climbing, balancing, crawling and moving under and over equipment. We talked about keeping ourselves and each other safe when using the apparatus and the children did a fantastic job of moving carefully and adventurously!

Here’s some pictures of the action:

Spring Term Collective Worship

Thank you to all of the parents who came to see Reception’s collective worship this morning. I’m sure you’ll agree that the children were absolutely brilliant- they learned their lines so thoroughly and spoke with such confidence- Miss Keohane and Sara are extremely proud.

Here are some photos of the performance along with the video clip that was played of our school trip to the Aquarium!

Science Week

This week, Reception have been enjoying lots of activities for Science Week. On Tuesday, we had a very funny assembly from Professor Whizz Kid. He taught us all about air and how we breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide. Here are some photos:

In the classroom, we have been investigating objects that float and sink in the water tray. We put celery into water with food colouring in and watched it change colour. We also looked at materials and their properties when we made 3D shapes in Maths. The children had the choice of either spaghetti, straws or lolly sticks to build models with and chose either marshmallows or Playdough to stick them together. The children worked as a team in their groups and all concluded that lolly sticks and play dough were the strongest materials for their models. Here are some pictures:

We have been also been hunting for Minibeasts in the outdoor area and the children have been helping Sara with some gardening and planting in the flower beds. It’s been a very busy week!

World Book Day

Reception really enjoyed celebrating Cathedral School’s Book Week. We read the story The Three Pigs by David Wiesner. In the story, the three little pigs fly out of the book on a paper aeroplane and into some other fairy tales. In Reception, we rewrote some of our favourite fairy tales with an alternative ending. The children chose their favourite fairy tale character and wrote a story where the character falls out of the book and into another fairy tale. The children’s ideas were fantastic!
We also had a great day dressing up as our favourite book characters! Here are some pictures of us in our costumes:

Pancake Day

On Tuesday, as part of our Shrove Tuesday celebrations, Reception made some delicious pancakes! The children all helped to measure out the flour, milk and eggs and to whisk the ingredients together.

Here some pictures of us making the pancakes:

By the time Miss Keohane tried to take a picture of everyone enjoying their pancakes, most of them had already been eaten! Here’s a picture of us when we were just finishing our pancakes!!
