Autumn 1, Week 5 – Amazing Bodies and Roaring Rockets

Stars of the week: Joyce and Jabez
This week we wrote a class book based on the book ‘From Head to Toe’ by Eric Carle. Joyce did some fantastic writing about the ways she can move her body, using her phonics to write down all the sounds she could hear. Jabez thought of lots of different ways that he can move his body too.
Well done to our Stars of the Week!

We have been thinking all about the different ways that we can move our body. We learned the names of different body parts and have enjoyed singing a song about our bodies.

We also looked at the special organs inside our body that help to keep us alive and moving, like our brain, heart and lungs.

On Tuesday it was Science day at Cathedral School. We were lucky enough to meet Julie, who taught us about rockets. She explained that rockets, need energy! We watched in amazement as she made a mini-rocket using lemon juice and bicarbonate of soda – it exploded! We then had a go at making our very own rockets! Science day was great!

Next Week: In Phonics, we will be learning ck, e, u, r. We will be practising writing our letters too! In Literacy we will be thinking about the first sound we can hear in words and trying to write the matching letter. In Maths we will be exploring patterns. It will be another busy week to finish our first half term in Reception!
