Autumn 2, Week 3: World Nursery Rhyme Week

Stars of the Week: Marley & Sienna

Well done to Marley & Sienna, our stars of the week! Marley did some fantastic writing this week, recording all the sounds he could hear in words, as he wrote adjective about London landmarks. Sienna was a Maths superstar, comparing numbers, and coming up with many different ways to make 3.

We had a wonderful week, joining in with thousands of other children around the world to take part in World Nursery Rhyme Week.

Experts in literacy and child development have discovered that if children know eight nursery rhymes by heart by the time they’re four years old, they’re usually among the best readers by the time they’re eight. –
Mem Fox, Reading Magic.

Each day we sang a different Nursery Rhyme. We also made different crafts related to our Nursery Rhymes.
We sang:
Monday: The Big Ship Sails
Tuesday: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 Once I Caught A Fish Alive
Wednesday: 5 Green and Speckled Frogs
Thursday: B.I.N.G.O
Friday: Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star

Here are some pictures of us enjoying making our craft activities and some of the finished products! We are going to put them up on our display board – look out for a picture next week!

Next Week: In Phonics we will learn the last of our single letter sounds z, and then we will start to learn the digraphs qu and ch, and look at plurals. It is Assessment Week, so we will be applying our phonics skills in writing, as well as showing all we can do in Maths. We will be looking at old and new pictures of London, as well as starting to learn off by heart our lines for the Nativity.
