Summer 2, Week 7

Stars of the Week: All of Reception

A huge congratulations to the whole class for a wonderful year in Reception! The children have worked exceptionally hard and should feel extremely proud of all their achievements. We hope you have a happy and restful summer holiday and look forward to welcoming you back for Year 1!

Summer, Week 6 – Sports Week!

Stars of the Week: Mae and Rory

This week was sports week at Cathedral School. We’ve enjoyed Sports Stay ‘n’ Play, a running race championship and a PE lesson with Year 3!

Here are some pictures of our buddy PE lesson with Year 3 where we practised our bat and ball and javelin throwing skills:

Thank you again to all the grown ups who made it to Stay ‘n’ Play, it was so lovely to see you all and the children thoroughly enjoyed it!!

Summer 2, Week 3 – Reception Get Sporty!

Stars of the Week: Annamaria and Thomas

This week, Reception practised some Sports Day activities in preparation for our Sports Stay ‘n’ Play session on Wednesday 11th July. The children had a go at activities such as throwing javelins, balancing a ball whilst running and dribbling a ball with a hockey stick.

We look forward to welcoming you at Sports Stay ‘n’ Play on Wednesday 11th July! Also, over the weekend, it would be extremely helpful if your child could practise their words for our collective worship which is taking place on Wednesday 27th June.

Summer 2 – Week 2

Stars of the Week: All of Reception

This week, Reception visited the Unicorn Theatre to watch a performance of Not Now Bernard. We had a lovely walk along the south bank to get there, past The Golden Hind, Tower Bridge and lots of other interesting sites! The children walked to and from the theatre safely and sensibly and their behaviour was impeccable during the performance. Well done Reception!

Summer 2, Week 1 – See How They Grow!

Stars of the Week: Alpha and Parker

Our new topic for this half term is ‘See How They Grow’ where will be investigating how plants, creatures and humans grow and change over time. Last half term, we planted tomatoes, strawberries, peppers, onions, brussel sprouts as well as lots of flowers, and now we will be taking care of them and watching them grow! We’ve also started to think about how much we have grown up since we started in Reception.

Summer 1, Week 7

Stars of the Week: Nifemi and Hazel

This week, we celebrated Poetry Week at Cathedral School. Reception have been learning lots of nursery rhymes and playground songs. The children then got to write their own version of the nursery rhyme Humpty Dumpty.

Royal Wedding Fever!

Over the last week, we have been having our own royal wedding celebrations! The children have been dressing up as the bride, groom and their guests and carrying out their own wedding ceremonies complete with toasts and readings from the bible. Some of the children even made a 3d wedding cake! They really enjoyed watching some clips from the wedding too! Here are some pictures:

Summer Term, Week 6

Stars of the Week: Mae and Joni

This week, we have been learning about living and non-living things. We sorted out objects into those that are living, such as plants and animals, and those that are not, such as laptops and books. We collected some tadpoles and a newt from Redcross Gardens and thought about what living things need to survive, such as food, water, shelter and air.

Summer Term- Week 5

Stars of the week: Nathan and Shaye

This week, Reception have been writing their own version of the story Jack and the Beanstalk. The children have worked so hard to apply their phonics and write in super sentences – using capital letters at the beginning, finger spaces between each word and full stops at the end. Well done Reception!
