London Youth Games Basketball tournament
Following their success at a previous tournament (5 matches played and 5 matches won!) the Cathedral School Basketball team represented Southwark at the London Youth Games Finals. We had a great day at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, playing really well as a team and scoring lots of baskets. Congratulations to all the team for their hard work and good sportsmanship.
Sports Day 2016
Sports Day 2016 gave everyone a chance to show off their sporting skills – teachers and parents included! As Burgess Park was waterlogged, we relocated to the Marlborough for the day and had lots of fun taking part in a carousel of activities and different races. Well done to Green team in KS1 and Red team in KS2 for your success, and congratulations to everyone who took part for such a fantastic day.
NQT (Newly Qualified Teacher) Support Award
One of the awards was a NQT (Newly Qualified Teacher) Support Award.
As a school the teachers and support staff are committed to supporting colleagues new to the profession both in terms of teachers at Cathedral School and also in the wider community. This year we were asked by the local authority to host all the primary NQTs in Southwark, over 3 terms, focusing on positive behaviour management strategies. NQTs are Newly Qualified teachers in the first year of the profession. NQTs spent a day at school, observing lessons and attending sessions run by senior leaders.
In addition to this Mr Antcliffe was asked to lead a session for Southwark NQTs on the teaching of science.
We are so pleased to receive this award as it recognises our commitment to nurturing the next generation of teachers.
Two Excellent Teacher Awards
Congratulations to Miss Dace and Mr Morrell who won Excellent Teacher Awards. Their awards recognised the consistently high quality of their teaching. A quality assessor observed them in their teaching and judged other factors across their criteria. These awards are highly deserved for their outstanding practice. Well done to them!
Award for Drama and the Performing Arts
The school won an award for Drama and Performing Arts which recognised all the excellent outcomes and learning in this area. The End of Year shows, the Cathedral services, choir, the Menier Theatre opportunties, the EYFS Nativities, Class Assemblies, Jazz Workshops were all considered when the panel considered us for this award. It is well deserved recognition for the all staff involved in the delivery and organisation of these fabulous opportunities. No other school has won this award before in Southwark and it is a testament to the broad and creative curriculum at this school.
Top 1% of Schools for Progress
Lastly, Southwark also gave us an award for being in the top 1% of the country’s schools when looking at the progress that pupils make here. This measure takes into account where the children are in KS1 and compares it to the achievement of pupils at the end of Year 6. The learning that takes place in those intervening years is among the best in the country.
International Evening 2016
Huge congratulations to all of the children, parents and staff who contributed to Cathedral Primary School’s International Evening on Thursday 26th May. This sell-out evening was an opportunity to celebrate our wonderfully diverse school community through song, drama, dance, music and poetry. The performances were astonishing and included African songs, ballet, gymnastics, dances from South Africa, Australia and India, as well as a variety of music played on the piano and violin.
International Evening is also an opportunity to get together as a school community and taste a variety of foods from around the world, many thanks to all of the parents who provided the food for the interval.
All the staff at Cathedral are incredibly proud of the children and believe that International Evening is an important way to showcase the quality of our arts provision. It is also a chance to celebrate our own diverse community.
Finally, we would once again like to thank all the performers, parents and staff who contributed to a superb evening.
Healthy School Questionnaire
At Cathedral School we understand and value the importance of your health and well-being. Regular exercise, along with a healthy, well balanced diet will improve your potential both inside and outside of school. Healthy eating and exercise boosts brain power and makes you feel happy!
We would like to find out and understand more about your views on staying healthy and feeling safe and happy at school.
Miss Bailey and the School Council have devised a questionnaire to help with this.
Please complete the questionnaire below
CitiChoir Introduce International Week
