Summer Reading

The summer holidays is the ideal chance for children to enjoy reading new texts.   To support with this, we have put together some recommended reading lists to help you and your child choose the books they would like to read.

The book lists can be downloaded below.  We are always looking to expand and improve our lists so, if you or your child can recommend a book that is not on the list, please leave a recommendation in the comments section of the Blog post and we can add the book to our list.

For younger children we would recommend trying a wide range of authors such as, Mike Inkpen, Julia Donaldson, Allan Allberg, Lauren Child, Jill Murphy, Anthony Browne, John Burningham, Rod Campbell, Eric Carle, Lynley Dodd, Shirley Hughes, Oliver Jeffers, Judith Kerr, David McKee, Helen Oxenbury and Raymond Briggs.

Enjoy a lovely summer of reading!

Bake Sale Plus Volunteers

We are very excited about our Bake Sale Plus on the 7th July.  If you would like to help out at the Bake Sale, please use the form below.  You can sign up to help out at lunch time or after school. We will need help with things like making posters, setting up stalls, serving on the stalls and clearing up.  Please do check with the grown ups at home that it is alright for you to stay after school to help. Once you have offered to help we will send a letter home confirming who has been selected and how long we need them for.

School Open

As a result of yesterday’s tragic events, I have spoken to the police and have been reassured that it is safe to open school tomorrow.

We understand that children may feel worried or upset and we will do everything we can to support them. A member of the clergy from the cathedral will visit the school and staff will be on hand to speak to children who may need to talk about their anxieties.

If you have an urgent concern, and you wish to communicate with me before Monday morning, please leave your contact details on the Contact Us page and I’ll get back to you as soon as the school receives your message. We will monitor this throughout the day.

International Evening

Huge congratulations to all of the children, parents and staff who contributed to Cathedral Primary School’s International Evening on Thursday 25th May. The evening was an opportunity to celebrate our wonderfully diverse school community through song, dance, karate, music and spoken word.

International Evening is also an opportunity to get together as a school community and taste a variety of foods from around the world, many thanks to all of the parents and staff who provided the food for the interval.

The staff at Cathedral School are incredibly proud of the children and believe that International Evening is an important way to showcase their talent and interests and celebrate our own diverse community.

We would once again like to thank all the performers, parents and staff who contributed to a superb evening.

If you would like to see what individual classes have been learning during International Week please see individual class blogs.

CitiChoir Open International Week

Many thanks to our friends at Citichoir who sang with the Cathedral School Choir during collective worship on Monday. It was such a wonderful way to start the International Week festivities . The whole school listened to captivating and joyful versions of Stand by Me, Jabula Jesu, Swing Low Medley and a world premier of a new arrangement of We are the World .

What a treat! Thank you to CitiChoir, musicians Phil and Alex, the Cathedral School Choir and Miss Dace for a super start to the week.
