Southwark Cathedral

In 2004, the Cathedral School of St Saviour and St Mary Overy  celebrated 300 years of teaching the children of the parish.  The school continues a close association with the Cathedral – the children go to the Cathedral regularly to celebrate the feasts of the Christian Year and the clergy visit the school to lead assembly. In addition, every term there is a Eucharist Service at the Cathedral for children who usually take communion at their church. In their final weeks at the school, children in Year 6 take part in a Leavers’ Service at the Cathedral.

The school values its proximity and close working relationship with the Cathedral. Canon Michael Rawson, Sub-Dean and Canon Pastor, is known to the children as Father Michael, and he plays an active role on the Governing Body of the school. Click here to read about one of his visits.

Many children worship at the Cathedral so feel very much at home there and children frequently visit the Cathedral throughout the year to learn about its history and architecture. Several of our pupils are members of the Cathedral Choirs.

Each Thursday a member of the Cathedral Clergy takes an assembly.

Recently, Year 4 worked with London Connected Learning Centre and The BFI to produce some fascinating documentaries about Southwark Cathedral. The films were commissioned by the Southwark Cathedral Education Centre and will be shown to visitors to the centre. Click here to see them.
