“Some people might say Cathedral School is big, some people say it’s small but I know it’s just the right size for everyone”

Year 2 pupil

Welcome to our website.

I am very proud to be the Headteacher of Cathedral School and I am very fortunate to be working with an extremely talented Senior Management Team comprising of Deputy Headteacher, Mr Stephen Scott; Acting Deputy Headteacher, Mrs Alice Rees; Assistant Headteacher, Miss Nicola Scade and Mrs Janice Breslin, School Business Manager. Having worked together as senior team for some time now I know they represent a wealth of experience and a great deal of knowledge of, and commitment to, Cathedral School.

I also feel very privileged to be leading a school full of such talented, and skilled staff  who are all committed to ensuring every single child attending Cathedral School receives the best education possible.

One of my favourite aspects of the job is the amount of time I get to spend with parents, carers and of course the children! I enjoy  saying hello to everyone at the beginning and end of the day and I look forward to continuing to strengthening the partnership between home and school in order to make sure your child is happy and learning. If you do need to discuss a particular matter with me, I would be very happy to do so. Janice or June in the office will be able to organise a mutually convenient appointment.

As well as our wonderful children, parents and staff I am very pleased to be working with such a supportive Governing Body. Each governor has a link to a year group in the school and a curriculum area.

Chair of Governors: Kate Wauchope

Vice-Chair: Jim Fleming

Parent Governors: Ruth Ashby, Shaida Kwapong, Tony Quinn and Parry Cockwell

Foundation Governors:Kehinde Lipede, Janet Simpson

Staff Governors: Nicola Scade, Janet Whitehead

As a school we are all very proud of the links we have with the local community and Southwark Cathedral: a member of the clergy visits each week to lead assembly, as a school we worship at the Cathedral once per half term, classes visit as part of their RE provision and our foundation governors all have a link to the Cathedral. In addition, volunteers from the Cathedral congregation come in to read with the children.

We are very proud of our recent Section 48 SIAS Report (Statutory Inspection of Anglican Schools). We were judged to be ‘outstanding’ in all areas with significant progress since the last inspection. Thanks again to the whole school community for your support.

We were very pleased to receive a letter from David Laws MP, Minister of State for Schools, congratulating us on our performance in thr KS2 SATs 2013. It states that we were in the top 250 performing schools and describes us as ‘exceptionally effective in educating it’s pupils’. In addition to this, a recent in-depth analysis of official DFE data on schools in England identified our success and we qualified for two SSAT Educational Outcomes Awards recognising the high attainment and progress of our pupils.

I hope you enjoy exploring our website and please feel free to leave a comment.

Best wishes,

Mrs Filiz Scott
