School Fete

  • On July 3rd, there was a very exciting school fate and It had lots of activities which most needed luck for. When I went to the ‘human machine’ there was a huge line of people waiting for their turn on the machine. It was 20p for 3 turns. When it was my turn, I handed over the 20p for 3 turns… then it started to spin. I got three lemons on my first go! The sweets started cashing out of the machine then I stuffed them in my pockets then I got two more spins left. The last 2 turns I got sweets too and then my pockets started to get full. I call that moment sweet paradise.

“That would be 50 pence, please?” This was my sentence of the day – as I said it so much. At the 2014 School Fete, I was selling loombands and loomrings. Loombands: braclets made out of special silicone bands. I was working with: Julianna, Melissa, Kristel, Rose, Anya,Naliah and Shai. It was such fun. Everyone wanted one and I made lot of money to give to the school. I made loombands, went round to sell them and gave Naomi the money. When the ’60’s style fashion show was over, I took a picture with, Anya, Eleanor, Laura, Melissa, Julianna and Freddy. It was very fun and the cakes were delicious!
In the end, everyone had a very nice time, not to mention the “Elvis”, singing the stage away!

  • Help me welcome to the stage… Cathedral School’s Summer Fete! With special guest… Elvis Presley!

There were diner ladies, there were pink ladies, and there was rockin’ gentlemen.  This summer fete brought us back to the good, old 1950s.

The fashion competition was fearsome! Pokka dots, posh totties, and Knickerbocker glories, were just a few of the authentic costumes. The amount of preparation was astounding, and I am sure everyone was grateful. The raffle had a lot of fantastic prizes. The fruit machine, a classic favourite, was back with more customers than ever before; the bouncy castle was a mountain of fun- no matter what age you are. The kick boxing class was new and exhilarating.

I think the summer fete was a huge success !  And a special thank you to the Elvis impersonator!

  • On Thursday 3rd July  2014, at Cathedral Primary School; a summer fete was held in the infants playground. The playground was filled with colour, fun and sounds of voices. There were many stalls of which people sold things, and games they would play to win prizes. They sold things such as loom bands, cakes, jam, books and games. All the activities were endless, and everyone was having such  good time that we didn’t notice how the time had gone so fast. Every step you would walk, children and adults would be smiling which was a good thing to see. As everyone was having fun, there was booming music by Elvis(well not really Elvis) singing songs, as everyone danced in front of the singer.

  • Yesterday was the school fete, we had food, music and even a bouncy castle! I was working behind the cake store selling loads of cakes from football to chocolate, strawberry’s and cream to sponge, all sorts! I loved it. We sold many things, and we even had Elvis to play, not really but he sounded exactly like him! We even had loom bands to sell which were really cool. By the end of the fait there were hardly any bands left. We ate cake’s, popcorn and I even went on the bouncy castle twice. It was really fun! However, the best bit must have been when you got to decorate free biscuits, I had three, one big one with white icing and a red heart, one small one with pink icing and pink eatable sparkles then I had small one with blue icing and silver chocolate balls. It was really fun and special because it was my last on in which being in the school.

  • We rushed out the school gates towards the Infant playground; although it was home time, there was already a throng of people. I and my friends navigated our way to the stall- where we met an array of brightly coloured cakes. They smelt divine, so I immediately went to ask for money. Opposite from the cakes and biscuits was: Chinese Elvis. He had a small stage behind a neon pink Cadillac.

Soon there was to be the fashion show: this year’s theme 50s. Laura and I dressed in white tops and spotty skirts- which I made. There was a variety of costumes, from spots to ice creams. We didn’t win but I enjoyed it.

After a while my friends and I bounced our way to the bouncy castle- it was so fun!

    The fete was brilliant.

  • Yesterday the Summer Fete was crowded with people moving about from stall to stall buying things and more also taking part to sell things even though it wasn’t theirs. Some also volunteered to make their own things and sell them. Even though people made things and as a result they got money, they didn’t keep the money they gave the money to charity. Their also was a performance for Elvis (not the real Elvis) an Elvis in disguise who sang some (I think) 60’s and 70’s song which entertained most of the adults. After that there were prizes for the best costume and this years theme was…The 50’s. After all the excitement came the cleaning we had helped and the infant playground was clean as ever and we went home eating the sweets we either won or bought. Next year will be better (I hope)!

  • I was standing there the mist of the crowd of familiar faces: I was looking for my friends. Me and my Eleanor were going to do the fashion show together, and she had MADE it! The thing is I didn’t know when, where to go. Finally, I had tracked her down and just then someone called out to go to the art house if you were doing the fashion show. I thought there would more people than this. Luckily, I was to go down the ‘catwalk’ with Eleanor.

Jump, jump, jump. Me and all our friends were on the bouncy castle. Although it was fun, little kids kept on going onto the bouncy castle and I didn’t want to leap onto their heads. Everyone was bouncing and bashing into each other. 20…19…18…17…16…15…14… There was a rapid countdown from the other children waiting for their turn.

  • As the clock struck quarter past three, masses of chattering children fled through the wide-open gates hung with colourful posters. The cake stall was burdened with sugar-pink, chocolate-brown and creamy white cupcakes. I was helping on to sell lots of the sweet treats and it was so busy almost all of them had disappeared in a flash.
A while later, after ‘Elvis’ had sung a few songs, he announced that the fashion show was ready to begin. All of the contestants excitedly made their outfits perfect as they stood in line waiting for their name and class to be called out. On the platform each child gave the intent audience a twirl and a pose.
Afterwards everybody enjoyed a go on the bouncy castle which flung your feet up and down and up and down and up and down until you were out of breath.

  • The 2014 summer fete
It was the best I have experienced at this school and my last. First I eagerly walked around all the stalls taking in all the fabulous and vibrant decorations and sellers. The cakes looked amazing and very inviting to eat. The massive bouncy castle was full of smiling faces as the chattering parents watched. The music of ‘Elvis’ was great and he sounded much like the actually on, his speech in-between songs was funny and interesting.  One thing caught my eye- Fruit Machine, it had been their last year but I didn’t get a turn to be it even though it looked so fun.
But this year my friends were doing it however I swapped with one of them and I got to do it. It was very fun and I enjoyed watch the children’s faces as they won and sweets went down the pipe.

The other stalls were great and I hope all the other summer fetes are like this. Thankyou for the parents who organised it or gave cakes!

  • This year’s fete was the most enjoyable and exuberant I have experienced so far. As this was my last Cathedral School fete, it was certainly the best one to end on. Firstly, when I entered the Infants playground- which was already full of laughing and chattering people- I walked right towards the cake stall, where mouth-wateringly delicious cakes stood, waiting to be eaten. Naomi and Rose were already waiting for me, as I had volunteered to help out; I was given an old-fashioned paper-hat, and an apron. My friends and I each carried trays with small pots of either smarties or gummy bears, and offered them around for 20p each. After we had individually taken our turn to walk around with the trays, we eagerly rushed onto the bouncy castle, as you’re never too old for going on them!

Next, we casually strolled around interesting and unique stalls. we were all lucky enough to to have a go in Jill’s famous Human Fruit Machine! I also bought some of Year 4’s wonderfully made loom bracelets, I really loved the summer fete 2014! Thank you to everyone who organised it.

  • I have been to several school fetes in my time at Cathedral school and yet not one of them has been as much fun as this year’s. The theme was the 1950s and in my opinion that has been what has made it so wonderful along with parents and children putting a lot of effort into it. It started with my mother, cousin and I walking through the gate of the infant’s playground and being confronted by a photocopied pink Cadillac and a man in a gold jacket that put the shining sun to shame. Then a voice boomed from a microphone, “Ladies and gentlemen, here is a song for you from Elvis- that’s me- so here goes…” I turned my head from the dazzling display to face the homely cake stall where I was to receive my maid’s cap and apron. As soon as I had collected my costume, I wormed my way through the crowd and with my mum went over to Redcross Gardens and when I came back I was in my fashion show outfit.
In a loose yellow shirt and a wide black belt, as I swirled around in my flowery skirt… the fashion show was called. A panic ensued. I had forgotten my sunglasses. Quick! Through the people, round the cake stall, where was mum? “Mum!” Oh, there she was! Sunglasses were in that bag. Back through the people, my name’s being called. Just in time. This was the only time where I was not feeling great.
The rest of the school fete was amazing and I hope that next year will be just as fun. I’m sure that if I come back I will find everyone just as excited as I was. I know I will be just as excited.

  • The School Fate this year was one of the most exiting, extremely fun and friendly fates we have ever had. Many year 6’s worked on the cake store, as well as making and selling Loom Banks. Because some of year 6 worked encredebly hard on the cake store – we made a lot of money, we got to go and have free time. While we were having three time, Velvis shouted, “ Fashion Show!”; People flocked towards the huge stage, which had a thin, long purple car in the front of it . Then the children from our school one by one cat-walked down the stage, what a treat! After that me and my friends sprinted to the gigantic boncey castle; another treat was wating for us! Then that was the end of the school fate. I t was an amazing fate!

Get your gummy bears, smarties, 20p each.” This phrase was one I shouted for most of the enjoyable afternoon. Rose, Anya, Miranda, Elysia, Shai, Naliah, Kristel, Melissa, Christabel and I, all helped Rose’s Mum (Naomi) run the cake store and sell sweets-and a numerous of loom bands-at 50 pence each. The fashion show was also a ‘rememberable’ part of the event as we had students from the age of: 3-11, and two parents go head-to-head, in the battle to win!

At the end of the event the helpers got free cakes and most of the adults and years 5 and 6 students helped Mr and Mrs Scott clear up the infants playground. After all of this I took a beautiful picture with my fellow classmates: Eleanor, Christabel, Melissa, Joelle, Laura, Freddy and Rose! I will remember my last School Fete at Cathedral Primary School!

  • I really enjoyed yesterday! The whole infant playground was gorgeously decorated with yummy and scrumptious sweets, beautiful biscuits and chocolaty cakes while exciting games were all around(for children all ages to play with).l gladly looked around me happily until I finally caught a glance of star-shaped cookies consumed in lemon-flavoured icing. I raced hungrily towards the sugar-filled stall, i glared at the cookies and asked puzzled, How much is it? Even though they were homemade, cookies like these should be expensive!

The petite women quietly answered “They only cost 10p…” I glared at her in astonishment. Only 10p! I must be dreaming! I reluctantly yet happily paid and I brought the fluffy, warm lemon-flavored cookies towards my mouth. Suddenly, wonderful sensations were travelling excitedly around my mouth and sliding slowly down my throat. Lemon flavour was now bursting in my throat awaiting fill me up.

I love the school fete because it gives me the chance to fill myself up with lots of tasty treats!
I also love it because even though it Is in school I don’t get bored!
I think the summer fete is a huge success because of all the wonderful bakers ,who helped with the yummy food, that helped to satisfy us all!

When I was in Yr1 I went to the school fete and bought a t-shirt; this t-shirt was red with a white polar bear with a mouth you could open to show it’s menacing teeth. And to be honest I never wanted to let it go. If you ever saw a wonderful thing and you took it, it’s very hard to give it away.

Jump, jump, jump. Me and all our friends were on the bouncy castle. Although it was fun, little kids kept on going onto the bouncy castle and I didn’t want to leap onto their heads. In my mind I was telling everyone to let me enjoy the rest of my time on the bouncy castle.

We had missed the announcement on who had won the fashion show. Although I was sure it wasn’t as exciting as friends, I regret not knowing who had won. After it was time to leave all the others and go home.

If you happen to have a free after-noon and the school fete is on, there is one piece of advise I would give you is: GO TO THE SCHOOL FETE!
