Our Friends from Zimbabwe

We were very lucky today to have three visitors from Zimbabwe, representing the Diocese of Masvingo.

Mr Matthias Thompson Maduba, Education Secretary; Mrs Aileen Gwasunda, Mother’s Union Co-ordinator and Fr Misheck Mbodza, a member of the clergy from Masvingo spent all morning with us and spoke to the children about their jobs and our partner school Daramombe Primary School.

It was a most enjoyable occasion and we would like to thank them for taking the time to see us. This is the video and some pictures will follow.

Jubilee Lunch

The Diamond Jubilee lunch took place this afternoon and was a great celebration at the end of a very busy half term.

Many thanks to the school’s kitchen staff who arrived much earlier than usual to make sure everything was ready. It was a fine spread and was much appreciated by the children. Thanks also to the parents who helped with the smooth running of the event.

A short video of the celebration is available below.

Enjoy the rest of the Jubilee celebrations and have a lovely, restful half-term.

Artsmark Success!

We are delighted to announce that the school has just been awarded the prestigious Artsmark Gold from The Arts Council.

Our ‘Gold’ level of award represents the highest level of achievement. This is the fourth time the school has been awarded this distinction and consequently The Arts Council will announce this success at a national level on the 23rd May 2012.

We will also receive a special plaque early June.

The application was led superbly by Mr Rojas, Art Co-ordinator, who ensured that all the incredible art activities which go on in school were seen by the assessors as well as organising their visit earlier in the term.

To say the assessing team were impressed would be an understatement. They thoroughly enjoyed their day here and were hugely impressed by the standard of art provision and the quality of work the children in school create.

In their report they said “Your application demonstrated an excellent commitment to providing high quality arts provision that is embedded across your curriculum”.

Well done to the children and staff! Now we have await for our specially commissioned ‘celebration toolkit’!

Tennis Tournament

Dear Pupils in Key Stage Two,

Many thanks to all of you who volunteered to take part in our school Cricket team. I was overwhelmed by your enthusiasm. It’s great to see so many of you so keen to take part in sporting events. I am sorry that we could only take a team of 11 pupils and so a lot of you were disappointed on this occassion.

However, there are many more sporting events coming up, which you may wish to be a part of. We are very lucky to be invited to take part in a tennis tournament on Thursday 14th June between 10.00am- 1.30pm at Burgess Park Tennis Centre. Again, we will be playing against teams from lots of different schools.

We need 8 children from Key Stage 2 who must be able to follow the rules, show a great sporting attitude and be ready to try their best.
If you are interested in taking part then please speak to either myself or your class teacher before Thursday 10th May so that I can finalise the team.

Good luck!

Miss Watts.
P.E. coordinator.

Well done to the children below:

Class 3 – Faber and Oisin

Class 4 – Freddie and Eleanor

Class 5 – Esther and Max

Class 6 – Mohammed and Laura

Best wishes,

Mr Scott

Digital Leaders Wanted

Would you like to be a leader in ICT in school? We are looking a few KS2 pupils to help the school with ICT tasks such as maintaining the new website. You would be known as a Digital Leader.

You have to be responsible because you will have special ICT priviledges.

You have to be really enthusiastic about ICT and be a champion for the subject.

UPDATE: The link for the online application form has been removed. The  closing date for applications was Friday 27th April 2012. The response was overwhelming. The successful applicants will be revealed shortly.
