Bad Hair Day at Cathedral School

Bad Hair Day at Cathedral School

The school grounds this morning became a flurry of colour, glitter, ribbons and hairspray. It could only mean one thing – Bad Hair Day had arrived at Cathedral School!

Fundraising for Great Ormond Street Hospital, the event was organised by one of our wonderful Year 6 students who has been looked after at GOSH. With many of Cathedral School students past and present being cared for at one stage or another by GOSH, it’s important as a community that we support the wonderful work that they do.

We had both local and hospital press present during our assembly, so you may see some familiar faces in the Southwark papers.

Thank you to everyone supported the day, parents, students and staff and for all your generous donations.

Here are some of the wonderful hair creations we saw today!

Google Expeditions

Google Expeditions

Today, children in Year 1 to 6 were lucky enough to step into the world of Virtual Reality. Darren from Google Expeditions visited Cathedral School, showing children how to use the Google Cardboard. This allowed them to step into places such as Venice and Rio De Janiero, without leaving the school hall. Year 1 and 2 were able to use tablets to explore a 360 degree view of under the sea. Here are some photos of the children in a virtual world!

Kingdom of God

Kingdom of God

The first school-led Cathedral service of the academic year was held this morning and Year 6 explored ‘The Kingdom of God’ as revealed by the parables in the book of Matthew.

The reflected particularly on the parable of the Mustard seed and on the meaning for their lives, the school and the wider world.

Father Michael at the end of the service praised the thoughtfulness of the reflections.

There are more photographs on the Year 6 blog.

Sports Day 2016

Sports Day 2016

Sports Day 2016 gave everyone a chance to show off their sporting skills – teachers and parents included! As Burgess Park was waterlogged, we relocated to the Marlborough for the day and had lots of fun taking part in a carousel of activities and different races. Well done to Green team in KS1 and Red team in KS2 for your success, and congratulations to everyone who took part for such a fantastic day.

International Evening 2016

International Evening 2016

Huge congratulations to all of the children, parents and staff who contributed to Cathedral Primary School’s International Evening on Thursday 26th May. This sell-out evening was an opportunity to celebrate our wonderfully diverse school community through song, drama, dance, music and poetry. The performances were astonishing and included African songs, ballet, gymnastics, dances from South Africa, Australia and India, as well as a variety of music played on the piano and violin.

International Evening is also an opportunity to get together as a school community and taste a variety of foods from around the world, many thanks to all of the parents who provided the food for the interval.

All the staff at Cathedral are incredibly proud of the children and believe that International Evening is an important way to showcase the quality of our arts provision. It is also a chance to celebrate our own diverse community.

Finally, we would once again like to thank all the performers, parents and staff who contributed to a superb evening.
