A very busy week!

This week has been filled with fun and festivities, and has been a lovely end to a busy term.

The EYFS Nativity was a wonderful, professional show with Reception and Nursery in fine voice and energetic form. Thanks to the EYFS staff for organising and directing this, which is in its second year; it is a very welcome addition to the school calendar.

Many thanks to the parents for then staying on after the Nativity for the EYFS Stay and Play – there are photos on the Nursery and Reception blogs.

Wednesday was also the school’s Christmas Lunch, I know the kitchen staff start much earlier than usual in the morning to get everything ready. Everyone looked very much in the festive spirit in their Christmas jumpers.

On Thursday, it was the Cathedral School Parents’ Forum Christmas Fair, which had an amazing variety of stalls, prizes and produce this year. A huge amount of effort from parents went into this as well as goodwill from the local community who donated prizes. Thank you to everyone who made it a success.

And the Christmas parties at the end of the week were the icing on the cake.

Have a lovely Christmas and a happy new year!

Performance Tables 2015

The school performance tables were published on Thursday last week and the school is very pleased with the results.

The proportion of pupils achieving Level 5s for Maths, Writing and Reading combined was highest in the borough. The average grades achieved by pupils was also joint highest in the borough (5B).

The outcomes are, overall, fantastic and we are very proud of all the children who worked so hard for these results. Thank you to staff, governors and parents for their support.

Christmas Service

The school’s Christmas Service at the Cathedral was today, featuring beautiful singing from all children, and was led by Year 5 who performed ‘Rock the Baby’, a Christmas musical of eight songs.

It was a wonderful service and the children performed brilliantly.

Many parents used the word ‘amazing’ and one commented how the Christmas service makes it suddenly feel like Christmas!

Science Displays

The school produced some excellent displays showcasing our scientific skills last week and they can be found in the KS1 & EYFS corridor.

The standard of learning is very high across all year groups, and pupils and staff take pride in the presentation of their learning activities, resulting in high quality displays such as these.

Cathedral Tots

Our new parent and toddler session ‘Cathedral Tots’ has now started. The children and their parents and carers are enjoying it. The session runs each Tuesday from 9.30 to 10.15 in the school hall. There are toys, activities, big play space and stories for the children with tea and coffee for their grown up . Please do come along with any children nursery age and below. We are only able to invite Cathedral School siblings at the moment.

Bishop Godfrey

The school warmly welcomed Bishop Godfrey today as he and his wife Albertina visited the school on their visit to Southwark from the Masvingo Province of Zimbabwe.

Bishop Godfrey led assembly and told the pupils that the situation at Daramombe Primary School has become more stable. He mentioned that Daramombe had recently won an award for inclusion and that the headteacher, Denford Chuma, had worked very hard towards it.

Bishop Godfrey , Albertina and Father Stephen then toured the school with Mr Scott and they commented on the peaceful atmosphere, the wonderful displays and the interactive teaching. They later discussed how we will keep the links with Daramombe strong.

It was a pleasure to host the visit and we look forward to seeing them again!
