Spring 1 – Week 2

Stars of the Week: Leo H and Lourdes

Class 1 have had a very busy week this week. We started off the week by looking at instructions in computing. We gave instructions to each other and then we decided what instructions had been given to a Beebot based on its movements.

We also went on a trip to the Cathedral to learn more about the Creation Story from the Bible. We were first told the story of how God created the World with each day shown differently. Afterwards, we played a game to match up items with each day. Finally, we were shown around the Cathedral and looked at different things that reminded us of part of the creation story.

Spellings – Spring 1 Week 2

Dear Parents and Carers,

Your child will have a spelling test every Monday. Please make sure spelling books are brought in each Monday in preparation for this. Children will get a new set of spellings each week, these will be stuck into their spelling books. You may use the page the spellings are on for practice, but please do not use further pages.

I will upload the spelling words each week, in case children lose their spellings.

If you have any questions, please come and ask Mr Crowley or Margaret.

Spring 1 – Week 1

Stars of the Week: Harry and Jeremiah

Class 1 have had a fantastic first week back after the Christmas break. We started a new topic in English and have been telling traditional tales. Class 1 looked at the story This is the House That Jack Built. They were read this poem and then told it in a story fashion. Everyone in Class 1 then had to learn how to make it into a story and orally told the story to other children in the class. Some children even said theirs to the whole class!

Autumn 2 – Week 7

Stars of the Week: Maleeha and Ariana

Year 1 have had a very busy week full of festive fun and finishing topics! In R.E, we looked back on all of the Nativity characters and decided, based on their attributes, which one we think we are most similar to. We looked at all of their positive characteristics and thought about how we could use this to consider how we live our own lives.

In Geography, we thought about what we would wear at different times of the year based on the seasons. The summer is hotter so we would probably wear shorts and t-shirts. In the winter, we would have our thick coats on to keep us warm!

Autumn 2 – Week 6

Stars of the Week: Arabella and Nika

This week, Class 1 finally made their lunchboxes. The room was very messy as everyone cut and stuck their pieces of recycling. Everyone thought of creative ways to join their lids to their boxes to make sure that their lunches would be safe.

Autumn 2 – Week 5

Stars of the Week: Sienna and Leopold

This week, Class 1 all did really well in their collective worship! They had a fantastic stage presence and made sure that they were heard clearly by everyone in the hall. Well done Class 1! Have a look at the post below to watch it!

They have worked on their joining techniques in DT. They tested different methods that they could use to join their lid to their box for when they make their lunch boxes next week. It got very messy in the classroom but everyone worked really hard to make sure that they could attach two pieces of cardboard together.

Autumn 2 – Week 4

Stars of the Week: Lucia and Marley

This week, Class 1 have started looking at shapes in maths. We began by making our own shapes with pencils and pens on our tables. We can now easily make triangles, squares and rectangles. We also spoke about the difference between a square and a rectangle. A square’s sides are all the same length whereas a rectangle’s sides have two pairs of equal length. (We even got to draw pictures using different shapes on our whiteboards!)

In computing, we continued our topic on digital media. We made some pictures based on Wassily Kandinsky’s pictures that we made in art earlier in the year. Everyone tried to make it as easy as possible to make them, using the rubber or undo depending on what mistake we made

Autumn 2 – Week 3

Stars of the Week: Jenaya and Jabez

This week, Class 1 compared different materials that we could use to make our own lunch boxes in DT. We decided that although wood is a strong material, it would be too heavy to carry around. We settled on cardboard as it is light, but it is strong as well! Some children thought it would be good to put plastic around the cardboard so that it is waterproof as well.

In English, we have learned all about split digraphs. The found out that we already know the sounds, we’ve just changed how we write them.

In maths, we have been writing subtraction number sentences and have found the answer without using counters or cubes! We are able to think about the answer using pictures we have drawn or using our fingers.
