Autumn 1 Week 1

Stars of the Week: Shaye and Alpha

Well done Class 4 for settling back to school so well.

This week in Maths we have been looking at the place value of numbers, and using them to round to the nearest 10 and 100. We have been using a number line to complete these tasks and the children have done brilliantly. We have started to look at the different place values and how they can make a number larger or smaller.

We had an interesting history lesson where we looked at the timeline of events leading to the Viking invasion of Britain. The children discussed why the Vikings came to Britain, their method of travel and how they were finally defeated.

In English we have started our class book ‘The Saga of Erik the Viking’ and we have started to plan out a diary entry as one of the main characters. The children have been looking at the different ways to describe a setting and the powerful vocabulary we can use to keep the diary entry exciting and engaging. They have also discussed the importance of writing a diary entry in first-person and including lots of emotive vocabulary. The children have started to plan out their diary entry ‘A Night on the Seas’ in which they are on a Viking longboat caught in a storm.
