Summer 1 – Week 3

Stars of the week: Christina & Cecilia

On Friday last week, Class 5 were part of the whole-school hedge plant. Well done Class 5 for being such considerate gardeners.

In English this week, we have continued our learning around The Silver Sword. Class 5 have taken on the role of Bronia, the youngest child, and written a diary as her. They have tried to include all the grammatical features we have been focusing on.

In Maths we have been exploring percentages. Class 5 have shown immense dedication to this learning. We will continue exploring decimals next week, where we will be adding and subtracting them.

It was so fun learning about world earth day and creating our own hedge.

I absolutely loved planting the hedges! We learnt about the seeds and gardening and we can’t wait to see the hedges grow. I enjoyed digging the holes for the seeds to be planted with my friend and we all planted the hedge seeds in groups.

I loved being in the character of Bronia and I liked using ambitious vocabulary.

I liked to do the gardening that week as we had to put the little trees in and patting them down, then after that we then watered them. I hope the other classes had a great time doing the gardening with Miss Campbell!

Poor Bronia she is a girl in the second world war with no idea what is happening, her mother is been taken and her father is in prison! A real heart breaking story.

It was very fun planting the new hedges! We used hoes, spades and gloves so that we could first pull out the weeds and rocks so that they could grow properly. We did this on World Earth Day. I can’t wait to see them when they are fully grown!

Planting the hedge was an exiting experience! I don’t do a lot of gardening ( and when i do, my flowers die) so it was great to do it at school instead. It was fun planting with my friends and i feel proud that they are starting to grow! Thank you for making this possible!

I liked the 3 or 4 days of gardening. I really liked when we dug the hedge so it would be ready to plant the seeds so it will grow and make a lovely hedge.
I liked the part where we had a challenge on who can make the area the smoothest and the deepest. I like how we switched gardening tools every few minutes. I like the part when we planted the stem or seed as well as getting the hedge ready.

I can’t believe Bronia was so scared that she genuinely did not speak. If it was me I would just fall of the roof and end it. Well not really. But I would not cry for my mum. But to be fair Bronia IS 3 years old
