Writing letters

We wrote letters to the children in Nursery, Reception and Class 5 to congratulate them on the wonderful Christmas services that they performed at school or the cathedral. We delivered the letters to their classrooms after these photos were taken.

What was it like watching Neil Armstrong walk on the moon?

Class 2 asked this question and many more to find out about what happened when Neil Armstrong walked on the moon in 1969. Our visitor was Mr Hayfield, Miss Hayfield’s dad, who remembers watching that very special event on television. Here are a few of our questions and answers.

Victory: Was your television black and white?
Mr Hayfield: Yes it was and the picture was very grainy so it was hard to see what was happening. In fact at first the picture was upside down!

Malikyle: How did you feel when you were watching it?
Mr Hayfield: It was very exciting. Lots of my friends went to bed because it was late but I wanted to stay up to watch it. I was very tired at work the next day.

Blubelle: Do you think the world changed after Neil Armstrong walked on the moon?
Mr Hayfield: I think it was a very important event so yes. Everyone was talking about it afterwards. I don’t think it will happen again now so it was very special that he did it.

Tito: Did it make you want to walk on the moon?
Mr Hayfield: Yes it did. I think everyone wanted to after they had watched it!
