International Week Solutions

Well done to the children who participated in the Maths Challenge this week.

This week it was all about developing a systematic method and checking the method. Here are some of the answers that we received!

Maths Challenge – Week 3 – Solutions

This week in the CMC we were thinking about how many animals Noah might have seen walking onto his ark based on how many legs he could see. There are lots of different solutions that were submitted! It was important to think about how many legs animals have, as well as how many different animals there were (think about ow many of each animal Noah had on the ark too!).

Well done to these children who completed the challenge! It would be great to see more Year 5 & 6 children next week!

Welcome back!

To start the new year off to a flying start, we have spent time in class thinking about what makes effective learning in the classroom. Among many other ideas, one that came up was learning through experience, enquiry and investigation.

NRich is a websited dedicated to providing ‘enriching mathematics’for primary and secondary aged children. It can be used at home and has some challenging and engaging investigations.

You can also use submit your answers to nrich and they might publish your solution!

MATHS DAY 2012

Cathedral Primary School have been very busy today as they have taken part in Maths Day 2012.

We have been taking part in lots of practical activities, using our Maths knowledge and skills to complete the activities.

Miss Murray and our Maths Governor came round to all the classes in the morning to see what we were getting up to.

Below are some photographs of each class being very Math-sy!

Since subscribing to Mathletics at the start of the Summer Term, children at Cathedral Primary have been very busy completing tasks and playing maths games against children all over the world!

In our first week, over 40 children were awarded certificates, and that number is rising as the weeks go on!

All the points the children are awarded are added up and if they individually score enough points in a day they are announced on the Hall of Fame on the website, and if a class gets enough points as a collective, they are posted on the Class Hall of Fame, and guess what…? Two classes have already done it!

Look closely at the two pictures below of the UK Class Hall of Fame…which two classes are already famous?

Do you think you, or your class could do better?
